Hi there

I use xlanguage to have my site in 2 langauges but I have just recently come to realise that it is killing search engine ranking for my website pages.

The problem is that xlanguage does not change the url for the same page in either language so a search engine can only index one of the pages. Its causing me big problems and I guess this will be a problem for anyone else with a multi-language site for whom seo is important.

I found this post and possible solution

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=55026&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0

but it does not seem to work. I have tried it every which way, even tried changing where the line-breaks are in the htaccess, but it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me? is there a solution? Or am I missing something in the above solution?

I really need both langauges to have different URL's, any help would be massively apprecaited

thanks!

you can use a language chooser per post and not per get. so the search engine can not spider the duplicate urls.

thanks dslchart for the reply but I want the spiders (and viewers) to view all the pages (both langauges) as they are translated and so not duplicate content. So i think I need a way to rewrite urls

I am afraid it is not, because he started this thread when his post (last one in that thread) stayed unanswered.

Opss...! Xlanguage does works, I am able to browse my website with

language1 => http://www.websitename.com
language2 => http://www.websitename.com/language2/

but when I am in language2 mode and clicking on "Home" the whole website goes into language1 mode, anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks a lot guys

Mrphilong could you show me the code you added to your htaccess for this to work (including the line breaks)?

Was it only the htaccess file you changed?

Thanks for your help
