Smarty Date Format php5 error

My hosting upgraded my site to php5 and it causes some errors.
one of it would be this

<{$smarty.now|date_format:"%A, %B %e, %Y"}>

the date on the theme randomly outputs a inaccurate date.
like this:
Saturday, February 9, 120988

how do i fix it?

hello,

no one apparently had the mistake with its php5 / XOOPS environment.
it does not deal with xoops, but with smarty and php themselves, and your hosting company.
Check on smarty's forums /faq to see if someone had the same problem.
Do synergy or die.

I believe Marco is correct... You can see similar issues at both Issue Report 1 and Issue Report 2. Reading through some of the forums it appears that it may also depend on the 'exact' PHP version (for example I saw a forum post that claimed there were problems using this with 5.2.0) and also may depend on the specific installation of the OS (Linux - and which distribution, Windows, etc.).
