Re: Proposal: Towards A Sustainable Open Source Project

you mis-understand me, Nuno.
The wiki and reporting roles I'm talking about are the ones that this team will be using to report our discussions and make input from the community possible. Forums are too cumbersome.

Don't be so quick to discount what we're trying to do, Nuno. A little patience (really, just a little) is all we ask.

The proposal that follows below is tabled for open discussion by the XOOPS Community. The ultimate goal of the proposal is to develop an improved management for the XOOPS project that will encourage community participation and carry the project forward for the long term.

Support what? And contribute to what?

One side there is people trying to set it free, open source!

Other side, there is people closing to create privileges, seats and titles.

As you have done closing the proposal that should be open to community.

Success in reproducing the same issues with same seats and titles?

The discussion should be public and about the core, and project structure,
open to everyone contribution.

State about what is the web today, how technologies have evolve the last 3 years.
What is required to reduce the gap, what to improve on the core.
Then you will have something to manage!

But Now, we know what side you run for, thanks!

I support the team members, all community member like I, all people who love Xoops/open source like I.
I see nothing closed here, there have been many proposals, I'm confident that the team will make a proposal based on conscent and then we (the whole community) will/can discuss this further.

I have no need to discuss core development because I don't have the knowledge and first I think that's not what this topic is about (it's about community participation), second I see around me people who do have the knowledge actually improving things, not discussing / upchunking / sidechunking, but actually doing.

Open discussion?

Xoops community?

Aren't all the proposals here, on this thread?

Hummm....

So, you like team members, community and Open Source.

And you state that is about 'community participation'

Where, How, participate on what ?

But you support people who close it!

That's funny

Here! Nuno, Here! You're contributing now!

Until we can set up a wiki for people to contribute to, where else?

As for 'what', read the thread title. Re: Proposal: Towards A Sustainable Open Source Project

Sure, if you say so.

You plan to close it

while I still defend it should be done first openly
so the project can benefit from everyone contribution.

This is an open source community-driven project or not?
Isn't the base code development?

Is there an agreement on that !?

Re: Proposal: Towards A Sustainable Open Source Project

Nuno... I haven't the faintest idea about coding. The team I thought we were talking about are not coders. We're trying to develop governance guidelines.

I think either I've been replying to the wrong thread, or you and I are just talking about completely different things here.

@sailjapan

And do you think that skilled developers, designers, users will join and contributions be done for the pleasure of a few guys running for a second life with virtual seats and titles?

Come on. The web has changed. State where XOOPS was left, ask developers about the code, designers about User Interface, users about issues, ideas to improve it.
Developers rely on designers who rely on users.

All these, and all that - Invite People to 'communicate' openly!

Do you thing that a patchwork should be made to get something eye-catch which looks like something else?

And find one day that everything is broken and there's no more compatibility.
Find your self stuck with your huge site and not be able to migrate your content?
