My site is currently hosted at GoDaddy. However, I am thinking about moving to another hosting company. I would like advice on how to dothis and keep the site in tack.

Last i moved my site, I...

1) Disabled access to my site IE Password protected my root DIR that way no content could change and no users could register.

2) Download your site to your machine etc etc.

3) Make a Full database backup.

4) Reverse the process on the new host.

When you say download the site to my machine, do you mean as in download by FTP? Then would I need to install XOOPS on the new host and over write the files.

And let me add this information. The reason that I am moving the site is because I can't figure out how to access the database. I have not been able to get any help from godaddy.

pipwax,

you may try 1 of this Database tools that allow you to access to the database from your xoops.

Good Luck!

Download your site via FTP, downloads exact copy of your site, then you reupload that copy to your new hosts, all your settings etc etc are stored in the database.

You will have to get a module then to get a backup there are plenty in the Module Repository. Also you will need to modify mainfile.php to make the changes effective :)

Also give this a read about backing up your DB.

you will find that most hosts use fantasico anyway and XOOPS is on there anyway. so all you would need is to transfer your database.

With respect, I don't believe this statement to be true.
