This has already be done before many times. It just a matter of the best way to build it.
I have a computer system made by adp hollander. Its called {hyms} aka hollander yard management system. Its runs on super dos which is trademarked by bluebird. We pay out the wassu for it...
It can decode any US production car since 1980 or so I believe. It tells me most everything I need to know when I decode a vin. The vin number will not give you gear ratios in my work system. You half to know where to look on the car for that info.
The interchange part of the system tells me what parts off of this ford will fit that mazda and so on.
The system will also Id part numbers from alot of manufactures. Just type the part number in and it tells you how it fits.
The only problem is you can't port the software from it. Well without being sued... lol
