I do not know if such work has been never made before, but,
after a series of problems in the online website version, I
have decided to reinstall one fresh installation enclosing in one folder, ready for the installation of “protector”.

During the installation, module by module, we have made to pass the debugger in order to see if they had been errors and wich kind of errors… in order to see the "pure" installation , we have not filled up the database with a lot of records… usually only some small configurations and some rows loaded…

This is the results (“notices” not included):

SmartFaq

clicking on "request a Q&A" :
*Warning: xoopsOption[template_main] should be defined before including header.php in file /footer.php line 68

Click om smartfaq button ( administration ) :
*Warning: sf_adminmenu/modules/smartfaq/english/modinfo.php)
[function.sf-adminmenu]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in file /modules/smartfaq/include/functions.php line 510
*Warning: sf_adminmenu() [function.include]: Failed opening
'/modules/smartfaq/english/modinfo.php' for inclusion
(include_path='.:/php/lib/php/') in file /modules/smartfaq/include/functions.php line 510

evennews 2.1

clicking from menu -> evennevs -> messages archive :

*Warning: xoopsOption[template_main] should be defined before including header.php in file /footer.php line 68

The other modules installed and not giving Warnings are :

Forum CBB 3.08
News 1.5
Smatsection 2.13
WF-downloads 3.1
ExtCal 2.04
MyAlbum-p 2.87
Polls 1.0
Debaser 0.92
Smartlanguage ( Hack ) 1.0

It could be a great thing, such as it is obvious that some
errors exposed are repetitive (calling the module relative from the menu), to understand why, wich the way to avoid them and that meant they have…

I have made the comparison with the old ( online ) installation and I have seen that it does not changes anything… therefore it seems they are NOT installation problems, but errors INBORN in the modules or their connections with the module base…

I hope that you will be able to explain us all reasons of those warnings , if we can do something to clear them or we can proceed with the complete re-installation of our website …

Thanks and sorry for may english ...

XOOPS has always generated a lot of notices in debug mode. These are not actually errors (although I presume they are things that could have been done 'better'?).

If you get PHP 'notices' in debug mode you can proceed with an installation, although things may not work as expected. If you get 'warnings' you should really try and fix the issue first.

Many older modules require PHP 'register_globals' to be 'ON'. Most hosts now have this turned 'OFF'. That normally explains 'undefined variable' messages. If a module is mission-critical, you can turn globals on for your site using an htaccess file, provided your host allows this, but it is not recommended.

The 'no such file or directory' messages may mean a path error, either in XOOPS 'mainfile.php' (e.g. a trailing slash missed or incorrectly added) or perhaps in a module preference setting. However, it could equally well be a register_globals issue, or incorrect folder permissions. You just have to do some methodical troubleshooting.

If a problem persists, post a specific question about each module seperately and someone should be able to help. There are some good tips in the XOOPS FAQ about installation error messages. Plenty of info online about PHP errors, register_globals and htaccess.

HTH

I would avoid using EvenNews (IMHO). It is very old and I had a big spam problem with it. I believe the SmartFactory have an alternative newsletter subscription module.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
