I am looking for a module or php code to perform a backup of my 'physical' sites. There used to be such a module but the developer's site is gone.

I already have a MySQL DB backup toolset.. what I really need is something to simply copy and compress my site files.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi David,

No this does not provide for a backup of /public_html plus all subordinate directories. Ideally I want to backup, compress /public_html/... and then run the script via cron.

Seems simple but it isn't, unfortunately.

If you give me a little while ill send you a link to my XOOPS arkive and you can check your self.

its a little over 250mb of ziped, ziped files.
every thing from Hacks to modules, themes and cores.
from the first XOOPS to 2.0.16 even the 2.2.

so check your PM box later.

Rabideau,

Assuming you are not hosting yourself, does your hoster not provide this functionality. I only ask 'cus all three that I use, do.

If that doesn't work, you could put together a little php script yourself and then use the xoopscare module to run it. Actually, the author of xoopscare (see here) might be persuaded to add your functional requirement to his module, its seems to fit nicely.

If you can't write the php code yourself, take a look at http://www.phpclasses.org/ and various other php script repositories. Its usually the first place I look when I need php code.

It's of no help to you now, but I am currently writing a Python program that will do both an FTP download and a MySQL backup all in one with minimal input from the user (many tools do both seperately but none, that I could find, to do both) called 'TSB - Total Site Backup'.

Might be a few weeks yet though, if not months!

Hi Ted,

Let me be one of the first to test your module. We'll use it onhttp://helpxoops.info That site will give you some significant load and a robust test. Besides it will make my life easier, too!

akitsn, I'll check the sites out you mentioned... but Ted has hit the issue directly! I have found and am runnign cron MySQL backup... cpanel manual site backup... and there is nothing out there that merges all these together into one neat email the results to me type package.

Ted, you have a winner here!

Mark

Ted has it. Just a suggestion to him. Perhaps he could roll it up with the xoopscare module implementor cus I still reckon it's a natural home for it rather than having two mods doing all this backend auto housekeeping.

Regards
Ashley

Guys...don't get too excited. I might not be able to pull it off!

Additionally, it isn't an XOOPS modukle - it will be a standalone program, command line at first, witha GUI to follow later on.

As I said, ambitious plans for a first project, but I am working on it. Already got the FTP connection in place - working on the MySQL connection, then the download of the files and and the dump of the database.

Hi ted,

You might want to come over ontohttp://helpxoops.info and see if you can recruit some helpers for this project there. There is a good group of hard workers participating on that site and I think everyone of them will appreciate the value of your project...
