Im making a demo site that will contain all the XOOPS moduls and most of the themes, and i would like to have the useres have admin right, so they can understand what to do.
with out killing there own site.

what im looking to do is auto-refresh every 60 min.

Ive found a script on the net but its not stable.

I know and remember seeing a demo XOOPS site that has what im looking for, would any one know where its at and if i can gain access to the coding?

Thanks.
Marc

Can you not utilise Cron Job for this?

If you have CPanel there maybe an option in their for cron jobs? don't know as I don't use it.

Quote:
The crontab command, found in Unix and Unix-like operating systems, is used to schedule commands to be executed periodically. It reads a series of commands from standard input and collects them into a file known also known as a "crontab" which is later read and whose instructions are carried out.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cron_job

EDIT: user the cron job to re-set the DB back to default XOOPS sql file.
Kind Regards.

Be careful. A user with full admin rights can put PHP content on the server, which can potentially do almost anything.

And there are other demo sites out there and in the making, one is even an official XOOPS demo site. Maybe you should ask Davidl2 and snow77 if you can help them out instead of making one yourself?

CanĀ“t you use a cron job?

The other site you mentioned would probably be the one bluenova created.

Northern,

What exactly is the need for this? training staff? for other xoopsers? what?

I ask as from the replies so far, they don't seem to point you in the right direction.

If you need any direction with regards to setting a Cron Job, give me a shout, I'll point you to some websites, or alternatively, do a google search.
Kind Regards.

I know the code for the cron job
mysql -u username_database -ppass database_name file.sql

I know and have the javascript for the counter, but my counter will reset each time you refresh your brouser.
this i dont like and have yet to find the solution.

I was told that there are other ways to do the timed site reset's, other then a cron job, and this was what i was asking for.

You can see HERE the problem with the counter.

The site main intent is for Other Xoopsters to try out new themes and the modules to gain the look and feel without the risk of killing their site. sence most of it will be preloaded, all they have to do is point and click, along with adding the content.

after 120 min or 2 hours, the site will refresh as it has for the past week.

As Bender posted the link to the other demo site, and for this im greatfull, but it still sheds minamal light on a alt to a cron job, or the counter problem.
The counter scripts are almost the same, but the changes he had done to his script are already apart of mine.

Northern - I'll be replying to your message later about this... work is currently underway on an updated version of BN's demo site - which has a realistic time-scale of weeks, rather than months before its ready for launch ... however, I'll drop you more info later when I've spoken to my colleagues

(Time zone differences are a pain sometimes )
