... whoever you are.

I got a friend who's a very talented PHP coder who's agreed to make me a custom module I need.

Now, he knows absolutely nothing about XOOPS but said he wouldn't mind giving it a go.

My question then is:

Do anyone here have any links to documentation or anything else that can help him get started and get a good understanding of how to make a XOOPS module?

Thanks for your help.

Here is a link to a recently added module generator module. Also, do a search for info on creating a module, check the F.A.Q.s and also the new documentation site.

P.S. I am not a Module Coder. Just thought these might help.

Does the custom module need to be written in PHP?
If I have a web report written in asp.net , can XOOP load my asp.net web report as a module?

(I'm Xoop newbie)

Please advice.

i dont think so... i know that php has .NET functions, but i dont know what that functions are able to do...

you will not could use asp.net... because you are usin a php Web Server... like APACHE.. not a ASP server like IIS...

luck!

XOOP can run on IIS.
Reference : https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=204

Not sure what you mean by "..php has .NET functions". If you have any URL about this, please let me know.

Thanks for the input!

IIS/Apache has nothing to do with it. A XOOPS module must be written in PHP otherwise it will not be recognised by the XOOPS core as a module in the Modules Admin section.

Xoops scans a module's xoops_version.php to determine its configuration, database requirements, language constants, block information, email templates.... These cannot be in ASP. Besides, who in their right mind would code in ASP? .

Cheers.

I'd seriously consider looking into PHP. It is easy to pickup and has excellent support of OOP and MVC via Smarty. Trust me when I say that you wont regret it.

Good luck.

I hate ASP VBScript - I've been trying to use it the last few days while maintaining a site built by someone else. It's an ugly language with bizarre syntax. ASP.NET on the other hand, is excellent, though PHP is the more flexible.
