Problems Adding a Module

I'm a first time user of XOOPS and this forum. I encountered some problems after a sucessful installation when trying to add a module.


XOOPS Version: 2.0.14
Module Name/Version: classified ads
PHP Version: 4.3.2
MySQL Version: 3.23
Web Server Software (Apache/IIS/Other): Apache
Operating System: Linux
Theme you are using: default
Custom template: (Yes/No)No
PHP Debug Messages: None
MySQL Debug Messages: None
Smarty Debug Messages: None
A full description of the issue: After attempting to install the module I get this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: xoops_gethandler() in /home/httpd/vhosts/sunwest-internet.net/httpdocs/htdocs/include/common.php on line 163

I get the same error even after removing the module from the server. I have tried reinstaling XOOPS several times, and after successful installations, I still get the same error message.

It's called CatAds, v 1.40. The few instructions available are written French.

have you analyzed the physical path of the error:

/home/httpd/vhosts/sunwest-internet.net/httpdocs/htdocs/include/common.php

every server is different, so I wouldn't know to say if it is ok or something wrong but are you sure it's like this? with httpdocs then slash htdocs? maybe mainfile.php is configured wrong?

The path is correct. The /httpdocs directory is the equivalent of a public directory.

I don't know what else to suggest but this:
1. Try this tuturial and just check you have not missed a step in instlling the module.
2. Contact the module author - perhaps there is something they may need to clean up in it so it works with 2.0.14???
3. Use babel fish or other online translator to get a version of the intructions in your language.

Hope this helps or someone comes up with a more specifc help idea for you.

OK, I completely deleted my last install, and reinstalled everything again, except the module I was tryihng to install. I'll just bypass it for now. I'll just work on getting the main site setup, and worry about modules later. Thanks to those who provided some suggestions.
