I installed the same News 1.44 module to my working site as I had on the demo server. Yet the Top News block is missing in the blocks admin.

I changed the settings to match exactly as I have on the demo site, updated and I'm still missing the block. I reuploaded the module, updated - still no block. I uninstalled and reinstalled the module. Still no Top News block.

There are 14 templates. The files all seem to be there. The other blocks are there. I don't remember doing anything special with the News module on the demo site. The only difference I can see is that the demo site uses MySQL 5.0.16 and the working site uses MySQL 3.23.58. Both sites use XOOPS 2.2.4.

I did check in the database and it doesn't look like there's a Top News block in the newblocks table.

I updated one last time with MySQL debug on and no errors appeared.

It's probably something I'm overlooking. Hopefully, someone can help?

Thanks!

Hmmmm,odd, but I don't have a Top News block using 1.44 and XOOPS 2.2.4

The blocks I do see are Big Story, Moderate News, Navigate thru Topics, News Topics, Random News, Recent News....

Is there a block in your demo database for that block?

Yes... there is. Weird, I know. I found this in the FAQs so I know the block exists or did at one time - which I'm glad to know because I was getting a little worried there for a minute! LOL

Oh well. I'm using the Recent News which does the same thing but that was just weird.

I got curious and checked if I had a Top News blocks and it's there listed in the blocks administration panel. I activated it but it didn't show immediately ...I had to update the News module from the system > module administration page and that made the block visible.

It's quite possible that this server's database isn't the greatest. It seems fine but I've noticed some strange things. Also some strange things with the PHP. I'm not sure if it's the version of PHP or MySQL but every once in a while I'll get a download window of a PHP page instead of the page I was trying to edit in a module admin. I'm using Firefox for the most part. Maybe that has something to do with it. The times when I've tried the same operation in IE - the page just won't display. Then a little later - all is well... I do optimize too as there seems to be a lot of overhead of space usage in tables. I'm wondering if this is normal with 2.2.4. I should probably take a look at the site I've got 2.0.13.2 running on and see if it does the same thing.

Weird, I updated my news module and still don't see a Top News Block in Blocks Admin. However, I do see the template that is being used for the Recent News block is news_block_top.html

So Cuidiu, it sounds like it may be the same thing
