Easy?

It's been 2 years that I have been trying to make it work. And yes I have all the requirements.

I used a XOOPS website and I really like it.

But now the site is gone the webmaster disappeared and I am screwed.

I am trying on my own to set up a site with Xoops.

So much for trying.

I read and read and read. Doesn't help me.

Anyone want to be a webmaster?

I am sorry to hear this.
Why is it that you feel you can't do some of this yourself?

Perhaps you will learn better with Visual instruction? Try here: Johns XOOPS Tutorials

And check the FAQ's on Beginners First steps - the first page has been completely updated with accurate links.

Perhaps you will reconsider?

Cheers

When you unzip the folder, you probably will see three folders:

/docs
/extra
/html

All the files that are listed within the tutorial are within the /html folder. This is the folder that contains all the core files and directories.

The /docs folder contains documents and help files for Xoops, including an installation guide and change log. The /extras folder should contain... well... extras (sorry, I haven't really explored that folder much...).

I hope things turn out well with your site. Once you install the files on your server, the admin interface is pretty simple to get and you'll be able to get your site live fairly quickly.

And if you run in to any problems, post back! Everybody here seems pretty willing to help out.

Sorry, this post turned out to be a little longer than I anticipated... good luck!

Could not connect to the database server.

This is the end of it every time I try. I just did again and that is the message I get.

I never got past this point.

Ahhh - the database username and password may not be correct, or the name of the database, type, or port could be wrong (can't remember if XOOPS asks for the port). Anyone got a good tutorial for checking these, either from the command line or from cpanel or something like that?

You're getting there

Indeed! Don't forget many people have had the same sort of problems at some point.

Please don't be afraid to ask, or to check with the search or faq's - in case someone else has had a similar problem and sorted it.

Contact your host - they should have all this information for you.

Database Details you need:

*

Server name--normally called "localhost" your welcome email should tell you
