I upgraded news so I could use the spotlight feature, and I've noticed that the full article I spotlighted is not being read by anyone - the full article was being read before I used spotlight.

I think the problem is how there's a separator, then a Read More.. then another separator. I think it would work better if the first separator was eliminated, the read more link was append to the end of article text and renamed to - Click to read rest of article" or "continued..." or something like that. How can I make a change like that?

OK, I found the text that said Read More... and was able to change it - I think the text is confusing because there are more articles right below it. I'd still like to get rid of the line above the Read More text - I see where it's coming from in templates/news_block_top.html, and I took out the line,

<hr width='98%' />

but when I reloaded the page, the line is still there. How do I update my site with the change to the template?

Go to administration>modules and then click on the update icon for news.

that did it - thanks - the only thing is that also wipes out my preferences for the blocks - it just took a minute to fix them, but in the future is there a way to update the templates without resetting the preferences?

Yes. You have to turn the default theme on, go to any page displaying the block in question and refresh it. But you need to have the option asking if you want to update templates set to "Yes" in Preferences-->System-->General Settings. Just remember to set it back to "No" after you're sure your changes have taken place.

It was no big deal this time to have to reset preferences, but I could see it being a problem doing it that way when my site gets more involved.
