I had some server problems and had to dump my database, I created a back up and all files are still on server in the same locations, I just cant import the back up file into the database.

Can anyone help me with this?

I am using MySQL version 3.23.58 through webmin

I have named the file backupdb.db

I know at first I was having problems , the more i messed with it the more I found a way lol

when you save the db make sure you name it exactly as the original name. EX "mydb_xoops" save the db as "mydb_xoops" or save it different but rename it before using it. Not sure if this is right or not but it works greatly for me as I do my work locally then upload it.

Hope this helps and isnt confusing,
Markus

To elaborate on m0nty's excellent recommendation, PHPMyAdmin imposes limits on uploading/importing SQL files from your PC - a timeout (300 seconds) and a filesize (2 Mb, or sometimes less, depending on the host).

BigDump circumvents these limits. You simply FTP the SQL file to a folder on your web server along with the 'bigdump.php' script. Running the script via a web browser connects to your MySQL database and imports the file.

phpMyAdmin, at least newer versions, can import/export to local files on the server, but you have to edit the config.inc.php file to enable that.

Bigdump might be better though in some cases. I haven't tried it.

I use the module Xoops DB Backup & Restore 3.0 which has BigDump integrated. It lets you backup your database in one big file or in separate smaller files. You can restore the tables separately.

I changed the name of the file to "backup.sql" that worked
