Admin can't login

When I enter my admin login and password the site says the login is accepted but then it doesn't log me in. I can't access the administration pages at all. The login and password are correct, and there's no other sign of problems with the site.

Hi,
check if you can access to yoursite/modules/system/admin.php

If you can access then the problem could be because of any wrong definition of XOOPS_URL at mainfile.php

do a search on can't login admin on this site - this is a question for which there are lots of answers so spending a bit of time doing a search is worthwhile. It's also a good learning tool - so grab a cuppa and hit the search button.

If you can't find the answer then make sure you read this postand give us lots of information as suggested so you can be helped.

The search turned up nothing useful to my specific problem. Here are some more details:

My login and password are valid. When I enter them on my main page, the regular system message approving the login appears. Then, however, I am returned to my main page as if I had never logged in. This problem arose today without warning.

XOOPS Version: 2.0.13
PHP Version: 4.4.2
MySQL Version: 4.1.14-standard
Web Server Software (Apache/IIS/Other): Apache 1.3.34
Operating System: Linux
Theme you are using: cleanblue from mywebresource.com
Custom template: No

You can try deleting admin.php from your cache directory, flushing your template_c directories...

Sometimes that works. Otherwise I agree with the earlier responder... check other variations on your prolem via search on this site. Try the FAQ also... if you haven't already.

im not sure if this is the problem but..

the url looks like it is defined as http://voluntarytrade.org/newsite/

but it looks like your redirect. http://voluntarytrade.org goes to .. http://www.voluntarytrade.org/newsite/

so im thinking you are logging in to the http://www. site and when you login to xoops, it redirects you to the http:// site. so the cookies are thinking you are not logged in.

solution?: change the xoopsurl from. http://voluntarytrade.org/newsite/ to http://www.voluntarytrade.org/newsite/ (in mainfile.php)

solution2?: change that redirect at http://voluntarytrade.org to http://voluntarytrade.org/newsite/

im not sure which is the better solution. and there are probably more solutions.

From previous discussions it seems to depend on the server setup at to whether it's better to use http:// or http://www. but with most servers it's best to use http://www.

I tried the redirects that Bandit-X suggested, but that did not succeed. I don't know why that would be the problem, given that the redirects haven't changed since I setup the site over a year ago. I have a nagging feeling that something got screwer up by my hosting company, which has had a lot of downtime in the past few weeks. It was only after the latest downtime that this problem arose.

I may just reinstall the entire site.
