I have been rebuilding my XOOPS 2.0.13.2 site under XOOPS 2.2.4 and am almost ready to make the switch. I want to transfer all forum cats, topics, posts etc from newbb2, on the old site, to CBB3 on the new site. I tried copying the data from the old db to the new, but the posts don't retain the poster info. They all show up as guest.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this?

The update should be very straight forward: upload CBB 3.0 files and update the module.
You may need empty your template_c folder as well.

The point is that I would not be updating an existing installation of newbb2. I have an installation of newbb2 under XOOPS 2.0.13.2. I have rebuilt the site under 2.2.4 because I wanted to change some of the modules used. So, I want move all the data from the old newbb2 forums to the new CBB3 forums, which are in an entirely new XOOPS installation (under a subfolder on the site).

Updating a module mainly means "update" its data.
SO, in your case, no matter you just copy your data or copy both data and old programming files to your old site, it IS updating.

I am looking to update from newbb2 to cbb3.0 also.

I am running 2.0.13.2

If I am understanding the directions.

1.) upload cbb3.0 to my server and put in the modules folder
2.) go into my module admin panel
3.) click on the "update" icon for my forum (http://www.myurl.com/modules/system/admin.php?fct=modulesadmin&op=update&module=newbb

This is it ?

My issue was a little different, but as I understand it you will need to put the Frameworks folder and its contents at the root level of your 2.0.13 installation, then the newbb folder into your modules folder. Then do the update.

As I actually haven't done this, you might want to wait until someone who has confirms it. Even then, backup your site first, of course.

Ahh!

First, let me say that I haven't updated a 2.0.13 newbb installation to CBB3. (Mine is on 2.2.4). However, if you want to run CBB3 on a 2.0.13 XOOPS installation you will need to have the complete Franeworks folder, including the art and xopps22 subfolders, at the root level of your XOOPS installation. That is, in the same folder that XOOPS is in. This is described in the News item on the front page of the XOOPS site.

You copy the newbb folder to your modules folder, overwriting existing files. Then do and update on the module (from the admin window). You should then be set to go.

As always, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SITE FIRST.

And let me throw in my 2 coppers... When I went from NewBB2 to CBB it refused to read from the NewBB db. CBB would work fine until they tried to read a post/thread. Blank page. When I tried to revert back to NewBB2 the admin panel would give me a blank page.

My only course of action was to uninstalled NewBB2 and install fresh CBB and it correct the issue. Sadly I lost 18 months of postings.

FYI, do make a db backup before you upgrade.
