Hi,

I'm a Xoops-addict from the first hour. I installed the RC3-version about two years ago and must honestly admit that I didn't update it since... (I planned to upgrade from the RC-version to the final, when it suddenly became version 1.3)

I want to upgrade now, but that is very difficult. I tried to upgrade it to the latest 1.x version, but that one didn't recognize it and wanted to install everything over again. The 2.0 version does also not recognize the old XOOPS version.

I'm trying to find a way to keep the database intact while upgrading to the latest version. But this seems to be very difficult. Also, because I'm not a PHP/MySQL-expert.

Is there anyone that know what do to? Or give me some suggestions?

I'm even willing to pay someone to do it for me, as long that it can be guarranteed that the database will remain working properly.

Regards,
Yero

You might have to upgrade in sequence, so here is a list of 1.3 upgrades.

go here

like I said though you may have to go one by one until you get to the newest. Then try 2.0.x.x

Hope that helps

Thanks, I was looking for those older files!
I will give it a try.

The only thing I can't find it a patch to upgrade from 1.3.10 tot 2.0 (it starts with 2.03)

From the moment you got an 1.3.x version, just remove all your files (backup your mainfile.php data) and reupload all 2.0.7.3 files. Then start the install, it will recognize the 1.3.x and will advice to upgrade.

Goodluck.

how about upgrading from 1.10 to the new xoops2? i cannot find any files for 1.10 to XOOPS 2...
an ounce of prevention is far more valuable than a pound of cure

You will need to upgrade from 1.10 to 1.3.10.

After that, you will need to apply each upgrade patch as it was released until you get to the 2.x series.

In order to make a smoothe transition, I would create a new database and copy your cuurent DB into that. Then copy your site files to a new directory and edit the mainfile.php to reflect the new database changes and file locations. This would be for testing reasons.

Once completed, then start applying all the patches to your test version (the newly copied information). Once all your patches are completed, you can then begin to move your test files back into the live section of your site.

Those are just my reccomendations. It may take longer, but at least your site will still be intact if anything goes wrong with the testing grounds.

Please remember, that your old modules may not work any longer. In many cases, the only salvageable data from this sort of upgrade path after such a long time, would be your user groups and users. You would essentially be building a new website in the background for your users to use at a later date, if you follow my meaning.

Good Luck!
