I could have a look at it without any promises.

Can you provide me with a backup of the database from before or when it happened?

Is a backup of the files available?

If not: Which version of XOOPS and modules was running at the time it happened?

Did your host really run php 3.x instead of 4.x? I guess he would be talking about MySQL 3.x instead of 4.x?

Contact me by pm if you want.

from what i read, backslash is still an escape character in MySQL 4..

it is also in MySQL 5 but can be disabled in MySQL 5 with the modes command NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES..

i don't see how php version would affect a MySQL import. especially if done thru ssh commandline.

Yeah.. To long. Now that I have started (bye corp america!) my own web development and hosting biz, you'll probably see me around more.

thanks for all the tips, but nothing seems to be working, and if anything I think it's getting worse, so any help would be much appreciated. I'm willing to pay some cash, cool dvds, etc., for anyone who can help.
