Looks like you are on a unix/linux system, can you verify that mainfile.php is in fact chmod 444 with FTP?

I get this message on a hosted Windows server.

The windows server does not allow me to change the permissions of the file. I spoke to the host about, they seem to think it will not cause me any problems, and that they are unable to change it for me.

That particular site has been running now for about 9 months and has not had an issue with a writeable mainfile.php
(So far)

I don't really like it as it seems like a security issue, but the hosting company don't consider it to be an issue.

Have you tried using your website's control panel file manager. That works usually when FTP fails.

Should be owner - read no write.

Re: Security / Read only

Then like the problem above this is a server issue, ask your host to resolve it. There should be no write access to mainfile.php after install.
