Actually that's what I was wondering about earlyer too, but no one ever answered it and I don't think it's possible with News.

However, you can make it in AMS with the spotlight feature, a brilliant module wich is a modified version of News :)

https://xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?cid=95&lid=1509

You can also add introduction and picture from the article in the introtext on your Xoops-frontside.

Happy holiday!

Thanks alot,

You are right AMS is a brilliant tool, but sadly it can not do the job, I've tried it, and asked for it from the AMS team, they said it maight be availabe in other versions.

Happy holiday,
Best wishes

Was it something like this you thought about? :

Resized Image

I have four categorys,
"Testsubject" and "Testsubject 2" belongs to catagory 1
"Testsubject 3" belongs to catagory 2
"Testsubject 4" belongs to catagory 3
"Testsubject 5" belongs to catagory 4

The block you can see on the top is the most recent article no mather which catagory.

The article-picture for "Testsubject 5" is placed before [extend]. Rest of the pics is only topic-pictures, but you can use article-pictures instead if you want that, like with "Testsubject 5".

Unfortunately, in AMS, you can't use thumbnails on the frontside and then view the big picture inside the article, but maybe they improve that in later versions

Hope some of this was to any help.
Best Regards,

I guess I need help. So much help .

First I have this News topic drop down box, I tried to remove it, thorugh module preferences, and block editting but I couldn't.

I've created 4 categories and added 1-2 articles in each, but in the top page they appeared in two columns without one main article(latest news) at the beginning as you have.

Can you help me figuring out how to do it? I seach for help on how to use the news module, I found a manual but its in Spanish?

Thanks alot

It is the AMS module you are talking about right? just to make sure, since you mentioned the News module at the end.

You can remove the dropdownbox from System >> Preferences, under Articles Preferences choose Module Preferences. Find "Select yes to display navigation box at the top of each module page" and set it to No before you hit the Go! button at the bottom

To get the most recent article at the top go to Articles >> Spotlight, then click Add Spotlight Mini Block to add a new spotlight. From there set Spotlight Mode to "Latest Article".
If you want to, you can also activate "Automatic Teaser" and add an value to it, then if the content before the extend tag is greater than the value you specify, the content that exeeds the limit will be hidden. .. a lovely function!
Spotlightblock Testsubject, Testsubject 2, Testsubject 3 and Testsubject 4 from my example above should has identical teaser-value, since spotlightblocks would not be in line if content before the extend tag has different values.

Have a nice evening!
