The version number is in the file include/version.php. For example:
<?php
// $Id: version.php,v 1.18.4.9 2005/08/14 18:38:14 mithyt2 Exp $
define("XOOPS_VERSION","XOOPS 2.2.3 Final");
?>

But it's not unusual for that number to be wrong.

The only safe method is to keep track of which version you downloaded and installed, or compare what you have with a fresh download fromhttps://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41586

If you are using XOOPS 2.0x it is located in the footer of the administration control panel. If you are using version 2.2x it will be in XOOPS /include/version.php.

HTH.

In XOOPS 2.0+ - in the administration, every page has it at the bottom.
In XOOPS 2.2+ - Default installation has it in the footer of every page, or some themes has it there. But it's not that sure.

In both verions it's in file it's in file version.php which is in the /include directory (/include/version.php).

There are olso other ways, like adding some code into theme.html etc., but I guess those are rather complicated.

For future reference, you can also obtain important information about your XOOPS install by installing the XOOPInfo Module.
