On Xoops.org newbb2 is used instead of the original newbb you are currently using. However newbb2 has been continued under a different name currently and so what you need to get is the module CBB.
You can find it in the download section of its
homepage http://cbb.getituponline.com/ .
From the readme what you have to do then is:

1 Make a full backup for your XOOPS including database and files (newbb directory at least)
2 upload the files to xoops/modules/newbb
3 add dropdow menu color CSS to theme/style.css (Appendix)

4 update newbb from Administration Area
5 set module preferences and permission(!Important). Some suggestions:

Since your site looks like a XOOPS 2.0.x version you need to grab CBB 1.14. The other version is for XOOPS 2.2.x sites only.
