Did you enable permissions in NewsmoduleAdminpage->Permissions? You must enable view permissions there for articles to show up even though you are an administrator.

Not sure where did you get an error for mainfile.php though. Can you specify. I don't recall that you have to modify mainfile.php while installing News 1.4.

Are you on Windows or Linux?

In Linux make sure you have done:

chmod 444 mainfile.php and then do:

ls -al

and make sure your file show up as -r--r--r-- (or 444 in short)

If nothing helps, try to remove the module or update the sytem files.

I've been having a similar problem with News. I was able to see anything but then I read the UPGRADE.txt file that says you have to generate the template files in the Template Manager. Unfortunately i'm experience another issue I was hoping someone could help me with. For some reason if I try and edit any news posting I get a "you do not have permission" error even though i've set all the permissions appropriately. Any ideas?

@caskater

Permission are set correctly? If yes, than try to "Enable authors to edit their post?" to "YES" in your News module prefrences.

Thread Revival -

Sorry for the bother, folks. Just installed both XOOPS & the news module.. checked permissions for approval, submission, and viewing... made the change in the submit.php for admins to always be able to edit articles.. threw a test article in the system (can edit it).. but it won't display anywhere else.

Can someone kick me in the right direction? Many thanks.

EDIT: - Just upgraded to 1.42... no change...

I was getting that too and I finally figured it out.

If you go into Groups on the main admin area, make sure all the check boxes for access to News are set. You have to do this as well as permissions in the news area.

That worked for me anyhow.

(edit)
Just tried out what I said on a test site. It didn't help. I recall now I had to upgrade to news 1.42 which is painless

cant remember where I got the files off hand. will come back if I find them.

(another edit)

I no longer know what is going on.
I have news 1.4 working on my main site after a few frustrating days.

After giving the advice here, I tried out my instructions again on another site I just use for experimenting with. No matter what I do there, I get the same problem again.

I know I must have done SOMETHING to fix my problem
I now do not know what it was that fixed it and I no longer know where to look.
