Re: Date and time

In News 1.4 module preferences, second setting down:

"Date's format

Please refer to the Php documentation (http://fr.php.net/manual/en/function.date.php) for more information on how to select the format. Note, if you don't type anything then the default date's format will be used"

Check that URL to find the string to enter into that setting for the format you desire.

Hello,

I was also looking for a way to change the time format for my news. I figured a few common examples. Here are a few examples:

D d M Y
Sun 21 Aug 2005

D M d, Y g:i a
Sun Aug 21, 2005 2:30 pm

D, d-M-Y
Sun, 21-Aug-2005

d-M-Y H:i
on 21-Aug-2005 14:30

d-M-Y g:i a
21-Aug-2005 2:30 pm

D d-M-Y g:i a
Sun 21-Aug-2005 2:30 pm

d/m/Y g:i
07/09/2005 2:02

This is what you are looking for:
d/m/Y G:H
26/8/2005 5:40:16

Cool, but is there a way to get the three letter abbreviation of month names internationalized? My site's in Spanish, and where it belongs, dates are conventionally represented as, for instance, 27-Ago-2005, where "Ago" stands for "Agosto", as opposed to "Aug" in English. I'm sure you guys understand what I mean.

XOOPS uses functions that are built into PHP to format the date. You may want to take a look at the PHP Date Manual.

Hope this helps.

This might help.

I used it to set my date correctly in french one of my sites.

Cheers.

Thanks, that was quick. So, I understand I have to figure out whether the server supports an appropriate locale. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to PHP but have tried with info I've found on the sites the two of you have linked to to run a little test. It was negative, but I'm not sure I did it right. What's a fool proof way to find out? And Lance, where approximately would I find Smarty's date function, or whatever you tweaked to get it done?
Still plenty of time, it's not going to make a difference until December (first three letters of English and Spanish month names I mean), and I can always fall back on something number based. So never mind if mine's just a stupid newbie question
