I've been trying to get 'Xoops savvy' since November 2004. Aside from security patches, I confess that I will be building sites using XOOPS 2.0.13 for the next 12 months.
This isn't because I don't think 2.2 will be great - it's just that I can't afford to discard my carefully researched modules list, or instruct users (again) how to use the new admin interface. Besides, XOOPS 2.0 works a treat.
I am optimistic the core team will continue to provide legacy support. How module developers treat the change is a different matter. One of the new modules posted this week has a version for both 2.0 and 2.2 which is nice to see. However, I am very sad to discover that SmartFactory have ceased development of their SmartSection module for 2.0 in favour of 2.2.
I can see their dilema, but there must be thousands of XOOPS 2.0 users who will stay put until the teething troubles with 2.2 are ironed out. If I were a module dev, I wouldn't abandon those users too prematurely.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
