What is the best discussion board module in your opinion that is a proper module with no hacks ?

Re: Best Discussion Board Module ?

Newbb is the only Discussion Board module designed specifically for Xoops. Newbb version 1 included(for now) with the default XOOPS install is a pretty good module, with (to me) some permission short comings. Newbb 2 was a completely rewritten version of the default forum module. The most current version is available Here version 2.12 final is the most current, and development for now has ceased. It was developed by Predator(no longer with Xoops) and Phpppp.

Phppp has continued work on the newbb module with his release of CBB version 1.12. There are lots of improvements with this module over the latest newbb 2.12, and some bug fixes. I upgraded to CBB from newbb 2 without any problems (Uses the same database structure.)

Additionally you may want to take a look at the Newbb 2 Flash Tutorials on my site. These will guide you with either the newbb 2 or the CBB 1 modules.

HTH.

The Invision port looks to be *the* best option. Everyone who's installed it says it's great - well it would be after all :)

I had trouble installing it - probably because of the site I'm installing onto - but I'm still trying because I know when it *is* working it will be well worth the effort!

I currently use IPB and agree with skyrider, it's a good board with comprehensive admin controls. It's a bit of a pain to install because of the core file replacements, but the core file set is regularly updated by m0nty to match new XOOPS versions.

Downsides are, it doesn't pick up the XOOPS theme, although you can add standard IPB skins and tweak them to get a close match. It takes over management of PMs, but sadly not notifications.

You can see it working over at http://www.wf-projects.com

My second choice (which may become my first) would be CBB. As jdseymour says, it is an enhanced version of the NewBB board. A new version (1.13) is due to be released. Definitely worth trying.

ipb i think is the best haves all you need!
newbb 2 on some hosting servers is loading very low because haves many options anyhow i don`t know exactly why because ipb haves more features and should load more low then newbb 2 but ipb is very fast !
cbb i never tryed so i cannot talk about it!
if vbulletin will be ported to XOOPS by bbpixel i think the fight will be iPB vs VBulletin!anyhow i installed the vbulletin as standalone and i preffer IPB haves all you need!If monty will release an block from the calendar to show in the first page of your sites normaly you can use ipb as an forum and calendar too don`t need an separated module for calendar and that`s very good!also you can put games and many more in the ipb forum chat too!it`s the best!

I use a stand alone phpBB and going to use IPD on my current XOOPS setup.

What I like the most about IPD is the extensive moderating features. Exactly what I need. Haven't tried Invision Board though.
