News articles on web site home page?

I've been playing around with some of the news modules, but none of them seem to be able to put a teaser on the web site home page. Either that or (more likely) I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. I'm building a site for a newspaper and would like partial stories on the home page with a "Read More" link that would require registration. Can anyone help or point me to a thread that talks about this?

Thanks...

AMS 2.41 is another option. Or any of the otherversions of the News module (1.1 or 1.2.x) used with the spotlight module.

I have installed News 1.3 twice and can find no spotlight routine. I have the following tabs:

Topic Manager
Post/Edit News
Permissions
Prune News
Export News
Newsletters
Statistics

After installing the module, I set the permissions, created a Topic, and added a story. But there is nothing that I can find about spotlight...

I appreciate the help!

Sorry to be such a dunce about this, but I can only get the spotlight module to put one spotlight at a time up. I need to have the ability to put several articles on the front page. Have I just got something set incorrectly or is this not going to be the solution to my problem?

Thanks again to all for the help....

Here are a couple examples of different methods for news.

On this site News is set as the default module to open in Preferences: Dogma West Coast

In this one it is set to show one News item and the rest are listed: LaFouine-Web

And here you have it as a block, just showing links to the news: The Lion's Den - Arena

With the spotlight you can do something like on the XOOPS site.

Just giving some different examples that settings give different outcomes.

Cheers

If you are using the news 1.3 final module, the spotlight feature is build in the block: recent news. You don't need to download and install the seperate spotlight (hack/addon)

Finding this module:
Please use the search option on this site. There are several topics and news articles about this module findable at the 'Module Dev Forge' (see link left: Block->Development)
