Would be nice, I think, if admins had a checkbox option to hide the article summary (scoop text) in the main article.

For example:

Article Title: "News 1.3 Launched"

Scoop txt: "The latest version of this popular module is now available. Our ace reporter Peekay investigates." Read more...

Extended txt: "A new improved version of the News module has been released and is...." (etc., etc.)

At present, the main article displays the text from all three fields. I just think it would be nice if you had the option to hide the scoop txt in the main article and just show the article title and the extended text, e.g.

News 1.3 Launched

A new improved version of the News module has been released and is.... (etc., etc.)

Hello,

Yes...... I'm not sure to understand the usefulness of this because you can play with one of the two text boxes to see or hide the text... but may be I'm wrong.

Bye,
Hervé

Sorry to confuse you Herve. I'll try to explain it a little better.

Everything is fine if you put the the whole article in the 'scoop' field so it appears on the main news page in full.

Everything is fine if you put the first few paragraphs of an article in the 'scoop' field and then continue the article in the 'extended text' field.

However, for news items, I was hoping I could use the scoop field to display a short summary of the item on the main news page that was written in a way to entice people to read the full item - not just use the first paragraph or two of the item itself.

In that situation, I would not want the 'scoop' text repeating again at the top of the full item, because the extended text below it wouldn't follow on properly.

If you had a checkbox option to hide 'scoop' text when extended text was displayed, you could do this.

I think it would be a good idea.

But maybe I'm the only one who does!

Nope, you aren't the only one. The suggested option idea is great!

Hello,

This is very specific to your needs. I will not include it in the new versions but I can tell you how to do it yourself.
Edit the file called /xoops/modules/news/article.php and replace this line :
Quote:

$story['text'] = $article->hometext();

with :
Quote:

$story['text'] = '';

Bye,
Hervé

Thanks for posting that Hervé.

I saw a website a while ago where someone had hacked News 1.3 to do this, and I thought you might like to see it.

link to website.

Yes, many thanks for doing that Hervé Now I can offer that style as an option if news editors want to write teasers.
