Indeed I did - I downloaded it for the first time today from his site.

Thanks Carnuke.

In fact, having just read Martjins post, I wondered if it might be and IE\Firefox issue. I tried logging in using IE instead of Firefox (my default browser), and setting my rescue password again, and now it seems to have worked. I have a couple of links showing for me to click on, so I'll go and have bash at it now. Exciting!

Hmmmm, so the 4 links of the admin menu (Protect Center - Security advisor etc) are working well, but the 2 links under "Check if Protector works well" do not?

Do you see the link tags if you look at the source in your browser?

Martijn

Yes, it's working a treat now. I tried clicking on both of the tests (that I assume are standard hacking techniques?) and they have both been logged by Protector showing me that my IP address has attempted to do the following at a certain time etc. Brilliant. Clever stuff.

Maight be worth people noting that it seems to work best with IE instead of Firefox, and perhaps other browsers.

Nice, I have firefox as well and no problems with the link, but indeed, browser issue is most likely...

I'm just posting this here so it will show up in searches. I added a comment about allow_url_fopen to the FAQ article discussing the Protector module.

PLEEEEEAAAASE help me with this question.

When I check Protector's "Security Advisory" I get this message:

'register_globals' : on   Not secure

This setting invites a variety of injecting attacks.
If you can put .htaccess, edit or create...

/home/XXX/public_html/.htaccess

php_flag   register_globals   off

I can edit this file, but when I put "php_flag   register_globals   off" in the file and then try to access my site I get a "500" error.

Does anyone know what I'm probably doing wrong?

Thanks to anyone who can offer help.

How exactly did you edit the file? You may have introduced some stray characters. Or if the file had other content, you may have placed that directive in the wrong place.
