Backup my site?

Hi guys,

I have made a fair bit of progress with my site, but how do I back it up easily? Is there a way to save it seperatly incase I mess it up or something?

I second Carnuke - there is a lot in the FAQ about backing up XOOPS sites. In addition, there's an XOOPS module called (I think) 'Backup', version 2.16. It will backup your database, then just copy your XOOPS system files to a seperate folder.

all that stuff in the FAQ sounded very complicated,
i am going to look for a module that does it for me i think.

I am running XOOPS on my machine through XSAS, i copied the entire XOOPS directory on to CD and then copied it on to another computer. Surprisingly the whole site transferred across with no problem.

Surely this is the easiest way of backing up my site?
Or am I missing vital stuff?

Would burning the files on to CD not work if it was on the network?

Sorry for all the noobish questions!

Well, you have found a solution locally, but I guess you're looking for an online solution also?

If you have access to cpanel, the simplest thing to do is click the backup icon in cpanel's home page for your account.

1- backup your database from here
2- do a full site back up or a home backup
3- download the backup files onto your own machine.
4- Full backups are usually stored in a nonpublic part of the server, ie above public_html

Restoring backups is also made simple on cpanel.

Without cpanel:
You could FTP your whole XOOPS directory down to your local machine and use one of the scripts like bigdump to save your database. Really depends on how large your site is ATM.
