As this is a common problem, I've followed the FAQ and looked at all the other threads about installing XOOPS.
Still no luck. This seems such a great project and I'm anxious to join the community but need to get started first!

Following suggestions of earier poster, here is my info:

PHP Version 4.3.10
SQL Version 3.23.49
Apache 1.3.33
Xoops Version 2.9.0.2
Do you have a DB, with correct name and pass.
yes - the tables are in place and I can access via phpmyadmin

Register Globals, on

Xoops URL? yes - do you want my site url?
Xoops Path? - yes, works, do you want this?

Can you see install.php? have been through process successfully.

Can you see index.php? just top and bottom appear - middle section blank.

Can you log in? user page gives error:
Warning [Xoops]: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "db:system_userform.html" in file class/smarty/Smarty.class.php line 1084

Any help from you old XOOPS hands out there would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

I've noticed from this post
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=29683&forum=1

that some people with a similar problem are changing some temp folder in MySQL - an option I'd love to try but my version of MySQL Administrator does not seem to have these select functions.

suggestions here most welcome.

That is a very slow server. Overloaded?

Suggest getting more details about the server.

Create a text file, name it anything.php and put one line in it:



The output from that will tell more of the story.

i also replied in your other thread regarding a possible problem with MySQL 3.24.49.. it maybe wise to upgrade MySQL too being as php has been upgraded to the latest..

Wow - great to have some feedback from so many people on the forums! Thanks guys.

There is a info.php page available if you want to have a look. I am hesitant to load up this forum by coping this very long page.

My very cheap host is called Hostlogical and I will be surprised if they are willing to upgrade their MySQL server just for little old me but will give it a shot anyways.

Any other suggestions most welcome.

try to set up debuging mode for xoops:

get into xoops_config table and change value of debug_mode from 0 into 1


I ma having similar problem, yet have completle blank screen
afret turning on debuging the folowing errors appear:

the funny thing is it is not my first nistalation of XOOPS on this server :(

user right are set correctly; the templates files do not exist... why?

check https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=80
i have found a solutions there... wrong rights on directories; not 666 but 777 for upload templates_c and cache
