is it possible to move all of the Vbulletin forum database (users/posts/threads) to Xoops? or even better is it possible to integrate both? I would like to still use XOOPS but Vb as the forum but without people having to register twice to each system, possible?

No it isn't possible ~ why I do not know! XOOPS and Vbulletin would make a great combination and I've been told by the Vbulletin developers that there is no problem with an integration script being written to combine the two.

Could anyone answer why no one is interested in getting these two working together ~ the best portal software and the best forum software

yeah, the only let down in XOOPS is that it has a very weak forum! and conbining both XOOPS with VB would make the most solid webiste

It would require the services of someone who's qualified and interested in doing the work. Maybe there isn't such a person.

Another factor is that vB is a commercial product, which kind of conflicts with the open-source nature of XOOPS. A XOOPS vB module could only be used by people who buy vB. The same applies to the person who develops and maintains the module.

koudanshi has said before that if there was enough interest (there's interest from some but not enough to warrant all the work needed) or if somebody would pay the license fees etc, then he would integrate VB with xoops.. but he wouldn't do it for free, it would be like the new IPB v2.0 and have a fee to download it because of the nature of VB not being Free..

i think he charges $10 - $20 for the IPB script + you need to buy an IPB license too from invision..

He should do it! I would pay 10... for the script that combine both VB and Xoops, koudanshi can we get a word from you if you are going to do it or not? with XOOPS growing im sure many more will buy the hack that combines both.. how much work does it take?

i was just quoting the 10 from the IPB which is the fee to download it.. but i don't think koudanshi has the time or inclination to integrate the script unless someone pays him to actually do the conversion itself which would be a lot more than $10.

the best thing to do is nip over to his site ( http://www.bbpixel.com ) or email him on : support@bbpixel.com

yeah I know what I meant is that if he does the script he can put it for sale just like the Ibp one I would buy it for 10 or 20..

Doing a full intergration of a standalone module into XOOPS would be a fairly major investment in time, maintaining it would be almost just as labour intensive. I would imagine that it would be several hundred (if not thousand) dollars worth of time to koudanshi to intergrate and maintain something like this. So divide that by 10~20 dollars and you'll get a rough idea of how many people require this before it becomes worth his while.
