I tried that, keeping Webmasters, Registered Users and Anonymous Users as the three audiences; there's no effect on the problem...it still exists. Thanks for your input.

I'm still wondering if the problem is with the submit.php itself but having nothing to compare it to, I'm at a loss.

i'm really struggling to solve or even give a reason for the problem.. i've totally run out of suggestions.. this is by far the strangest problem i've encountered with any modules.

i don't know if this may help anyone.. but maybe if you could place a phpinfo() script on your server so that maybe we could compare your php config to our configs and see if there's something set there that maybe causing it..

i think we have to start looking for other reasons as it can't just be a module problem when all the news article modules are doing the same..

allow_url_fopen On On could really do with being turned off as it's a security risk..

register_argc_argv maybe better to turn off too

register_globals On On ideally needs to be turned off too.. (this might be 1 reason it doesn't work)???

My host's response:

"Setting register_globals off might cause problems with old scripts but turning it on is not know to cause issues, as far as I know. Anyhow, please try after adding this directive in your .htaccess: php_flag register_globals off."

Since I'm not very familair with this, is turning this off wise with Xoops?

I don't have any time to help at the moment, but I can tell you AMS does not need register globals on in order to work. I'll try and get back to this thread tomorrow.

Any further progress here? I've disabled AMS on our site and haven't bothered with any other news module since I don't seem to be having much luck with any of them. I'd really like to get AMS working but in the meantime, the site sits dead-in-the-water...

It's been two weeks since my last post but I have to say nothing's changed. Unless I can get a news module working, I'm going to have to dump XOOPS and try another CMS. Anyone around to help me resolve this issue, or is it time to abandon ship?

Personally, I would dump your host before dumping xoops.

Not every host is setup up properly for dynamic sites.

There are more problems with misconfigured hosting services than there are with bad XOOPS modules.

From what I know of the history of AMS and the people behind it, its is a great XOOPS module, with many hours of testing behind it.


Hope that provides a better view of your issues.


I gurantee you if you use the right host, things will work better.
