Hi,

This is my first attempt installing XOOPS on a remote server. [Had no problems installing on a local LAMP environment]

Xoops version 2.0.7.3
Operating system Linux
Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix)
PHP version 4.3.10
MySQL version 4.0.22-standard-log

When I try to open the install/index.php file I am getting the message : 'no language file' instead of the usual XOOPS installation start page.

What am I doing wrong ?

~Nevermind~

The ftp client was timing out before the XOOPS files were uploaded completely.

Another dumb question:

Currently XOOPS html folder is in www folder in the remote server so when I enter the http://www.mydomain.com url it doesnt go to the XOOPS site directly.

How do I make it go directly to the XOOPS site ? Should I upload all the XOOPS files directly into the www folder ?

Ah, this may sound silly but...
Can you see any of your site? You put in .../www?
I'm running fedora and unpacked all my files in /var/www/html. I've haven't used a server other than my own so I'm not sure if they do things differently. What URL are you typing in? My experience is limited, but I hope I can help some.

The site loads fine for the url http://www.mydomain.com/html [where the 'html' folder contains the XOOPS files.]

What I want is http://www.mydomain.com to open the XOOPS site.

At present I can only think of redirecting it but I was wondering what is the correct solution.

you can set up many websites in the /www so don't put the files directly there. In order to point to the folder directly with a domain, you'll have to set it up in apache. I can't tell you how, but do some searching on google and you'll find the way.

I'm still new myself to playing around with linux.

Mmmnnn... Well there should be a particular spot in the filesystem, but I may be missing something. I'm a bit lazy and would just try sticking a static index.html file in a couple different spots until I hit the lottery. This may help resolve whether the issue is XOOPS or the server no? Redirection, yeah. Hopefully a big dog will see your post. I'm curious what the "best" solution is.

Most public sites are installed in /public_html/

u can possibly change the home path of your domain too via your server control panel.. under dns settings i think, u can then redirect your actual domain to point to a particular folder, then that folder then becomes your home folder if u get me..
