IP Ban not working---need help ASAP

My IP ban is NOT working---I've entered an IP properly (separated by a |) but when I check, the IP still shows in the "who's online" box...can someone please help me with this ASAP?

the who's online block is updated using the 'garbagecollector', which updates block information with a 10% chance (every time the block is shown, there's a 10% chance the block will be updated). So the IP may be banned, but still in the block.

So give it a little time...

Again, thank you for the quick RSVP...Instead of the single IP, I entered ^XXX.XXX.XXX to ban the range and that worked---I looked into the company (what I could find) and don't like the idea of them 'trolling' my site for what could be questionable motives (I think they're looking for XOOPS flaws to promote their own business/network objectives, if that makes any sense).
