For example, "You may find this post answers your question..."

+++link to post in another thread goes here+++

Re: How do you link to a post in a forum thread?

there are several ways to do so:

1. just include the url - if the url starts with http:// or ftp:// it will be automatically converted into a clickable link

Example:
https://xoops.org

2. Using BBCode - [ url ]...[/ url ] (sans spaces).
Example:

[ url=https://xoops.org ]Xoops.org Website[/ url ]
Xoops.org Website

3. clicking on the Resized Image icon in the post editor.

Sorry Ackbar. What I mean is.. if a post is useful in answering a commonly asked question, how can I include a link to it in another post?

E.g. Confused? see this post by Ackbar where all is explained...

+++ link to your post +++

For example, in phpBB you right-click the little page icon next to the 'posted' date and select 'copy this link to the clipboard'. You can then paste the link into a new post.

Same thing different method.

There isn't a cute icon for it like you mentioned but you simply copy the URL from the browser and paste it where you want.

Link to this same post

Or from a listing just right click and select Copy Link Location.

Like: Link to XOOPS introduction

Quote:

This URL links to this thread, not to your post. I wondered if you could link to a particular post within a thread, like the link generated in the notification PM does.

i understand finaly what you want is link to a single post.
so you can simply use threaded view and link a single post.
e.g. :

threaded view
so in the VB there is a function to show single post in a popup i hope see this option in the next newbb version 2.1

Peekay, my appologies, I understand your question now. Mmmm, it's strange and a question I have noted myself. The last version of newbb went straight to the post id. This version goes to the thread starter. Now I agree with you, it would be useful to go to the post. Maybe someone else could answer this... Why has this feature changed?

Just for reference, like phpBB's 'page' icon, Invision Power Board has a post 'number' in the top right of each post, very much like in this board e.g. #9

If you click on the number, a prompt appears enabling you to copy the link - which leads directly to the post.

I like the look of this board, (this is NewBB?) but I often need to be able to direct users straight to an answer. To do that, I need to be able to quickly see a list of my own posts, (I *love* phpBB's 'View own posts' button) then I must be able to copy/paste a link to the post which has the solution. A link to the thread is no good if the post I need is 4 pages into it.

I think a lot of moderators will miss this feature
