Can we run a theme contest?

I was wondering if a contest would be okay for a new theme.

The Good..

1) It would generate more themes for xoops.
2) The winner of the contest would be payed a fee.
3) The other themes designed would go to the users.
4) Sounds like alot of fun for everyone.
5) Any other pluses?

----------------------------------------------------

The Bad...

1) Reasons why we shouldn't do something like this?
2)
3)

Dont shoot the messenger.
Just thinking out loud again lol.

Regards

Sounds like a good idea. May I suggest some 3-4 guys as judges, evaluating the submitted themes.

Regarding a prize, this is perhaps also doable. Let's see how much interest can be gathered first.

Very Cool,

Sitepoint use to let the designers compete on regular html templates for peoples sites. Banners, logos, and anything else.

As a member of sitepoint you were able to run a contest for a .html template for your own website. What was needed was info on the project. What you were looking for colors ect. time frame and what you would pay the winner of the contest.

This is what I wanted to do. Set the cash prize for a project/website im working on and let the public vote on the best theme. Of course the winner would be payed by paypal at the end of the contest.

The rest of the themes would go to the public. The winning theme would go to the site owner only.

Again don't shoot the messenger.

I'm not going to be a judge unless the XOOPS Staff recommend me. I'm going to be just a theme designer. :)

Note: All themes must be created from scratch and the original creator. Themes are not allowed in contest if it's a port themes and stolen from other owners.

Paid a fee?
hmm.. maybe you could save the money and ask sponsers from some people or some company or some members. Maybe hosting? free hosting? attractive hosting? free domain? I am sure there are several members who do hosting here. Maybe there are willing to sponser.

btw, great idea script_fu

I remember on sitepoint there were always alternative prizes.

1)hosting
2)domain
3)barter skills
4)cash
5)donation to xoops
6)other options

It is really a very good idea. count in me too

I had tried to launch the same contest in France but without success.

I just suggest some tracks of notations and some rules to be respected.

several criteria:

+ the theme.html
-- using Smarty vars
-- using style sheet for all the elements CSS of the core
cleanliness of the code (for the final improvements in particular)
-- no redundant tags

+ CSS
-- CSS and HTML validated by the inspector of the W3 C.
* That wants to also say a valid doctype in the theme.html
-- Compliance with the specifications CSS 2
-- Documentation of the tags
-- Naming of the tags

+ visibility on various navigators
-- Internet explorer V5 & 5.5 different from the others that!
-- Internet explorer V6
-- Opera 7
-- Navigators based on Gecko (Mozilla, Firebird…)
-- Konqueror (KHTML Engine)
-- Others of which MAC!

+ XHTML 1.0 Transitional checking
+ Copyright in all the files
