I restored my database using the Backup function in my cpanel.

Then i edited my mainfile.php to redirect to my new site.
and chmod templates_c folder to 777
chmod mainfile to 755
chmod cache back to 777

what else am i missing..?
the page turn out blank and all white, i can't access to any of the pages within xoops..
There wasn't any error msg as well

what to do now?

CHMOD mainfile.php to 444
CHMOD /uploads to 777

Be sure you have used the correct database name/password, although I am almost sure you did.

Any other information you can provide would be most helpful, as you are well versed with XOOPS administration.

At first i when i started restoring, there was a error

[xoops] unable to connect to databse ...databasefactory.. etc etc..

then i got that fixed.

Unfortunately things still doesn't go smooth.

Now still trying to figure out what the problem is.

Now at least i got the url ended with
/modules/news/

Still white page though..

Hmm, I wonder if a certain module or block directory permissions has been set correctly. IF you have a gallery of some sort, be sure to CHMOD those folders according to the install notes, and check your other modules as well for proper permission handling.

I've slipped from time to time and created this situation myself by forgetting about certain module permissions.

Hmm could be..
checking xoopsgallery ...thingy..
re-chmod the whole thingy...

btw.. whats this in the mainfile.php ?

Use persistent connection? (Yes=1 No=0)
Default is 'Yes'. Choose 'Yes' if you are unsure.
define('XOOPS_DB_PCONNECT', 0);

If you use persistant connect, you may get a blank screen. A persistant connection always queries your DB. In my personal experience, I have leaving this on causes problems.

You can try to change it if you are unsure, but I would leave it off in the end.

if worst comes to worst.. and i can't restore.
what can i do if i have the backup database?

Can i make a new XOOPS installation..
and slowly upload module by module..
and restore data by data?

has anyone done that before?
or its just a silly way of doing it?

The very first time I moved my site, I reinstalled completely from scratch and reinserted the tables from backup.

In your case, upload all your files to the server and do a DB insert from your local copy of your SQL file.

A crude way to do this is to copy paste the info inside your local backup of the XOOPS.sql, and insert the tables through phpmyadmin.

I've done it that way a couple of times when I've been desparate to great success. All inforamtion was what was supposed to be. IT will work just fine, even if you don't have your modules uploaded yet. Do not reinstall modules over you DB, or else you will loose information though. All the information needed is in your .sql file, you just need to be sure that the modules are uploaded to the server, thats it.

how do i restore that?

do i need to extract the data 1 by 1 and insert it 1 by 1?
or there is a faster way to do it?
