What if it happens again?

While it is nice to see the letter from phppp and that people are once again excited about XOOPS it does leave me wondering if XOOPS is going to put any safeguards in place from this type of situation from occurring again. I understand people get sick and I wish skalpa the best but the lack of communication over the last year is inexcusable. The community has been crying out for answers and it took a very long time for some type of official response or action from the powers that be. What type of process could be implemented to allow the community more control and to insure that the atmosphere that was created here does not occur again?

I cannot remark on DJ's plans for the Core Dev Team other than I know he is big on open communication.

As stated previously, work is already under way to make the community support site community-powered again. What that means is the Core Developers and XOOPS Foundation will not manage the community support site. The community will, just like all the other productive Local Support Sites all over the world.

Information and status reports are being gathered now for a report to be published on our progress.

Your concern is appreciated and understandable. How we can best insure that communication does not break down again is to get involved and be open. The infrastructure to make this possible is almost complete. You can already see major signs of this which were recently announced.

Thank you for your response JMorris. My question was how to prevent this from happening to Xoops, the actual code itself not the xoops.org support site. I see that changes are on the way for the site and I hope that I can help in some way. So how can we prevent the core developers and the XOOPS foundation from letting this happen again? Who polices the police? Please understand that I am asking these questions with only good intentions.

Having a team will certainly provide a more democratic environment as long as the the team remains open to the community. A suggestion would be to have someone take meeting minutes and then post them to local support sites. This would allow the developers to see what the community thinks of it's decisions and the course XOOPS is taking.

There are a few members who have expressed deep interest in doing just that. Monitoring what's going on with Core Development and reporting it back to the community. I think it would be wise to move forward this way as well.

Personally, I'd like to see weekly reports published by each of the teams, stating briefly what was accomplished during the past week.

In an open-source project staffed by volunteers, it's perfectly understandable to expect an occasional report that says "No progress this week". But if there are ten of those reports in a row, then you know that something's wrong, and that team needs some help.

I like the direction this discussion is going. I would like to be involved in the collection and distribution of this data. I already have compiled a list of ways to achieve this and would be happy to discuss this further. Is this the proper venue?

Go Jim! Thankyou! Put your hand up with your ideas on this forum I'd suggest you ad your post to the 'community coordination' one so it would mean volunteering to be part of that team in the role you are suggesting.

I like seeing all this volunteering...it's nice.
