Does anyone have a server which can run Java Scripts
My interest is this.

We all want and need other applications to integrate seamlessly with our XOOPS site. The biggest drawbacks are multiple logins. Last week Mercibe posted code which could eliminate this. To make this work we need to develope a testing environment. It will require a Directory server to work. Mercibe has a hack which will work will the Yale University CAS central authentication system. This open source system requires a java servlet such as Tomcat to work. Most hosts companies have apache but not tomcat. CAS is deployed as a web application compliant with the Servlet 2.3 standard.

My proposal is this. We as a community install CAS and use it to develope an authentication service for the use of developing and debugging Mercibes code. I think all would agree that it would be a great advancement for the XOOPS community to have a single login across mulitple applications.

Does anyone else have any suggestion along these lines?

One note:
This authentication system is designed to run on a remote server not necessarily where your XOOPS site is hosted.

I'll ask Ackbarr if this is feasible for the current xoops.org server. If we set it up as a new virtual server, we mimic it being an external server.

Herko that would be great if it could happen. There is no problem with running on the same server. The only requirement is that it have a java scripting engine. Please take a look at the authentication diagram. This is a very secure solution. It was designed to allow single login of multiple applications from the ground up. There would be no hacking of either application.

I'd love to see a single logon, particulary for something like the OsCommerce module.

are we talking a single log on for all applications which means things like phpbb, nukes, seperate programs that has member sign ups, or a system that allows all XOOPS sites to have one log on?

If it's for all XOOPS sites then something is availiable now and is being developed further:

I think the community could solve this problem in less than a week if we all put out heads together. I also believe it would put XOOPS out of reach of any competing CMS alternative.

My interest is to drive business to my site. I like to eat good.

I have installed subsite and have had very poor results with it. Subsite seeks to be more than just an authentication scheme. However it does allow one to logon to alternative XOOPS sites in the same database.

Yes I am talking about a single sign on for the applications which you mentioned. Not just XOOPS sites - other applications.

I noticed from one of your post in another thread that you have Active Directory running on your server. Have you tried Mercibe's Authentication hacks??

I don't have a clue as to how accounts or access to an Active Directory server works. But I would be interested in applying for an account on your server.
