Ok, just to let you guys know I've put the line of code suggested by frankblack in the search.php, and it works like a charm. One thing though. NewBBex has its own search.php file. I used frankblack's hack because it also works on the /NewBBex/search.php file.

I haven't tried the code suggested by zyspec because there was no need after confirming the first one works, but I'm curious, what's the difference in both codes? Is one more secure than the other? Thanks again guys.

Hi,
I've installed XOOPS 2.0.18.1 with newBBex as a forum on my website. I want anonymous users to be able to view the forum topics, but I don't want them to be able to use the search function. Only registered users should be able to do so.

I've disabled access for anonymous users in admin->groups->anonymous users->Block Access rights. I thought that would do the trick, but when I typehttp://www.mywebpage.com/search.php in my browser, without logging in, I am still able to use the search function. Also, the NewBBex module does not seem to have a setting to disable search permission for anonymous users. So I gather that is regulated in the XOOPS group settings, right?

I did a search here for setting search permissions, but couldn't find what I am looking for. Is what I've described possible in xoops? Have I missed something in the configuration settings? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Trabis, the problem is not that I can't see my login block, it's that the login block is not being replaced by the usermenu block after successful login. Thanks for the tip about the cache option though, but alas, it didn't work.

Too bad, didn't work. I was hoping it would after reading the comments on that thread. But it actually made it worse. When at first if that would happen, all I had to do was open a new browser and login and it would go away. After editing the code as described in that thread, I couldn't get in no matter how many new browsers I opened. For now, I just use Firefox. Doesn't seem to be having problems with that. Also, my users didn't report anything of that kind. Maybe it's just when you login as admin? Anyway, on goes my search for a solution. Thanks anyway, JAVesey. Much appreciated.

Thanks JAVesey, I'll certainly try it out. It does look like it's session related. Will post the results after I've done some testing.

Hi thanks for the reply. I checked the caching, but there is no option to enable/disable the 2 blocks you mentioned. I looked in admin>Preferences Main>General Settings>Module-wide Cache.
Should I be looking somewhere else?

Also, I don't seem to have this problem when I'm testing with Firefox. Only with IE.

Hi, well it happened again. Not once, but a couple of times even. I notice that it occurs when I log in and leave it on for a while until it times out. When I log in again, I get the screen: thank you for logging in, etc. And then the login block is not being replaced by the usermenu block.

I even started a totally new website, fresh install of XOOPS 2.0.18.1 and right after the first login, I got the same thing. Only after I close the browser and start up again, does it work as it's supposed to.

Yes, that's exactly right. The login is not being replaced by the user menu. I already tried going directly to the admin.php page and it says, user not authorized to access this blablabla. So I figured maybe I ticked something wrong in the groups block where you can set the access rights.

But then, all of a sudden, I just tried to log in again, just then. And it all works miraculously. I'm positive I haven't been hacked. Could this be a bug of some sort in 2.0.18.1?

If it happens again, I'll certainly post it here.
Thanks for the help though.
