Okay, thanks, I will consider. I see that I would have to purchase a three year plan to get the $4 rate--which isn't wise if I end up wanting to change to some other host after a year... I'd have to go with the $6 rate for 12 months. Would I still get the 15% discount at that 12 month plan?

Question I forgot to ask earlier: Does XOOPS still require forum users to log in every time they visit the site? Or can members now remain logged in for extended periods of time? Even permanently?

Thanks!

I'm in the U.S.

Okay, so the domain name/hosting will cost something...

Hmm. Given that I have to pay anyway for the domain name and hosting, do you think it might it make more sense for me to see what kind of offer I can get from a professional web hosting site to set the whole thing up for me?

Please advise if XOOPS would serve my purposes for the following:

I plan to create a website for a ten block district of a township that provides the following features

* links to the city's website
* page for annual schedule for trash and recycling pickup
* provides regular updates regarding Town Council meetings; any local news relevant to residents
* blog about issues affecting the city and district
* provides a forum for members to discuss issues; ideally I would like to have the capacity to create a number of subforums, if needed
* includes the personal messaging (PMs) feature (not absolutely essential though)

I've taken a look at Microsoft's Office Live Small Business, but unfortunately it appears Office Live does not include a forum feature. And the forum is essential to the concept of the site.

I have no experience with web design. I have a little experience with webmaster permissions at a hobby site with XOOPS, but that's it. If there isn't an easy auto-installation for XOOPS modules I would probably be too daunted to create a site with XOOPS since I don't know any coding languages.

I don't need or want a lot of bells and whistles. When it comes to building the site, the more user friendly and intuitive the better. Realistically, I don't expect to get more than a hundred or so registered members, at best.

If I use XOOPS to create the site, how would I host it? I have a spare PC I could use as a dedicated server. I guess I'd have to pay for a domain name, though, no?

I'm new to all of this, so please have patience with a newbie!

I'm a member of a site that uses XOOPS 2.2.3, and although I possess little knowledge of XOOPS I do have admin priveleges.

When I try to edit a forum (eg, simply to change it's name, or description) I get the following error:

Editing Forum:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: xoopsformselect() in C:\CerebralHosting\Websites\APRGaming.com\modules\newbb\class\formselectuser.php on line 34

This has site owner is stumped, so I thought I would take initiative to see if someone here can advise how to fix this. Any advice or directions I take back to him? TIA

For XOOPS 2.2.3, I've noticed that when I edit a post and submit the change, I get taken to the first page of the thread instead of the post. Or come to think of it, IIRC this happens every time after making a very first edit, i.e., all subsequent edits take me back to the topic starter of the thread. Is there a way to set things up so that after editing (more than once) you're returned directly to the post you just edited? (Hope this makes sense.)

For XOOPS 2.2.3, is there any way to allow users to individually select a 'hide my online status' type of option in their profile?

Okay, the site says at the bottom:

Powered by XOOPS 2.2.3 Final ... Design by 7dana.com

When I go to Administration Menu > Modules > Articles > Article Management - Create a New Article, I get an error message: "ERROR - No Categories created."

Thanks for the responses!

Unfortunately the website is down right at the moment as the host server is being moved. It uses 7dana, I remember that much. In a day or two here I'll be able to provide more info.

My question betrays my near total ignorance and lack of experience.

When I looked at the site's 'create a new article' (or words to that effect) section I was daunted by all the settings. So I asked the site's main developer if I could make the documents in Photoshop and send them to him. I'm a neophyte with Photoshop as well, but at least I have some familiarity with how to create layers with it.

I guess I should pose the question differently. How do I begin practicing at

1) creating an article
2) adding layers of graphic images and background colors/visual effects?

tnx for your help!

dimensions for article created in Photoshop for XOOPS

I have zero experience with web design via XOOPS or any other application. But I'd like to create a series of articles via Photoshop for submission to a XOOPS website.

I have a very rudimentary question: when I make an article in Photoshop (v. 5.0 LE), what dimensions should I make the canvas size for the Photoshop document in order to assure that it fits properly when imported (?) into the 'articles' module of the site?

I've been advised that I need to save the .PSD document as a .jpeg, if that information is relevant.

Ironically, I do have full permissions as a webmaster to the site (it's a small project). So if I'm told where to look, I can probably find out any custom dimensions the site may use. (I just fear I might quickly get in over my head if I try to do too much too quicly without really understanding what I'm doing. But I guess I can always check with the owner before doing anything.)

Any guidance here will be tremendously appreciated. Thanking you in advance. :)
