Does anyone here have any experience in doing a mod rewrite on mx-directory?

I'm about to take this task on and am looking for a little guidance...

I want

/modules/restaurants/singlelink.php?cid=32&lid=4343
to read
/restaurants/CategoryName+Restaurants/RestaurantName

Also, same goes for URLS like

/modules/restaurants/viewcat.php?cid=27
should be...
/restaurants/CategoryName+Restaurants

Things I have seen are rewriting them to be link-4343.html, whereas I want the actual business name in the URL...

Any input?

Hey Tripmon,

From an advertising standpoint, it wouldn't be worth it for an advertiser to pay to advertise on a page that is 5 pages deep into a category. They want to be first to catch the eye of someone browsing their restaurant category.

From a publisher standpoint, it would make sense to limit the number of sponsored listings per category (3 or 4 per month). If it got successful, then prices would increase to meet demand until that demand falls off and it reaches equilibrium.

Another option.. long down the road.. is to have the sponsored listings be pay per click rather than a flat rate. The 3 listings would run on a bidding system, and the advertisers would bid for positions......

Can you tell I work in advertising?

Hey Tripmon, glad to see you're back. I'm sure you'll be flooded with questions and requests in no time.

I have one question which hopefully has a quick fix -

I have pretty much modified your code to do everything I need and fixed some minor bugs I had read about here on the boards. I have one snag that I just can't seem to figure out. If I have a category with multiple pages, any sponsored listings only show on the top if the listing is on the page you're browsing.

Example: http://parkslopedining.com/modules/restaurants/viewcat.php?cid=1&min=0&orderby=titleA&show=10 - I have a sponsored listing that only shows on page 5, but I want it to show on every page of the category (as it should).

Is this something that is fixable? This is one thing holding me back on the site, so if it's just simple code you could provide I'd really appreciate it. If it's complex, I'll just hold off on having sponsored listings if it will be addressed in your new release.

Please let me know either way!

Thanks, and welcome back! We all really appreciate your hard work.

P.S. One request for a feature is to have a "tell a friend" form page on the listings instead of an email link.

I have been working on the script myself, and have had a lot of success in tweaking it and making it be the way I want. My site is set to go live soon. However, there is one bug in the sponsored listings - example: if one category has a sponsored listing and that category has 5 pages of listings, the sponsored listing only displays on the page it shows up on (in my case, the 5th page). I'd like it to show on any of the pages in that category. Did you come across this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

I would like to be able to hide the "Sponsored Listings" section when there are no sponsored listings to display. How can this be accomplished?

Thanks!!
