I understand the need to backup, but the site in question is an internal support site that gets alot of traffic and many posts/content added daily by multiple users. Reverting to a backup would mean a loss of data or a manual effort to recreate the data after reverting. I would rather do a partial restore of certain files then a whole restore.

Example:

- Problem found in core module for XOOPS verion 2.2.x
- Many new additions in forum module since upgrade
- Revert core module and core modules sql data without reverting entire site and all modules

Is this at all possible?

So, if I understand correctly, I can backup my MySQL data and install a fresh copy of XOOPS with the same modules and then copy the data over. I do not need to backup any part of any module (for the most part). I know of one module (icontent) that I will have to backup, but the general modules such as newbb etc I do not need to backup.

Another question, lets say I found an issue with the current release version of XOOPS and I wanted to revert to an old version. If I no longer had a backup of the sql database files for the old version (or that version was out of date), is there any way to revert?

How can I go about using a fresh install of XOOPS and various modules without losing any data such as forum posts, news items, users, etc.?

What would I need to backup (sql database obviously)
Any part of the XOOPS directories?

I do not think it will be a problem to add some debug items there. What I am really looking for is what does XOOPS assume the settings are for php.

I am using the latest production release of XOOPS along with PHP 4.x on a Windows 2000 PC running Apache. I have never gotten the mail system to work properly. I am using smtp with a POP3 mail server (this works fine with another server using a perl module). I am hoping that someone can explain what needs to be configured and what is required for mail to work properly with XOOPs. Also, if there is a log I can check for issues please let me know.

thanks

Hello,

I a having an issue with email notifications not working. PM works, and I can mail users, but if I set the notification option to email, no emails are sent. I am using SMTP (remote server).

Is there a way to log what XOOPS is trying to do?
How exactly does the notification work when email is selected?
What should I chack first?

thanks..

I tested it awhile back and liked alot of its features but could not get swish-e to funciton properly on Windows 2000, so I abandoned it. But I agree, it has very nice features and now with the auto config of swish-e maybe I will get it to work.

Program to gather stats from site searches

I run a intranet site for a support center. We use the site to post all our troubleshooting documentation to. The site has grown rather large and some of my users are complaining that they are having difficulties finding documents using the built in XOOPS search. I would like to find a program that would show me stats on common search words. Below is an example of a search from my access.log:

172.22.221.238 - - [18/Mar/2005:08:09:57 -0500] "GET /search.php?query=update&action=results HTTP/1.1" 200 10777

Anyone know of a stats program that will pull this information from the webserver's log file?

BTW, I am running Apache on Windows 2000.

It looks like DMS will auto configure swish-e. I have not tested this yet though, but DMS (Document Management System) has some nice features like document versioning, etc....very promising.

http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/?dms

I have not tested this yet but I will soon. In the mean time, I have just been uploading word documents into a forum and creating a detailed description of what they contain in the post. This helps with finding the correct document, but the user still needs to crawl through the document to see if the answer is within.
