Agreed with all comments....well almost all the comments.

Dont worry.... I have several "things" working for me in relation to protection.

I KNOW that Merlin the Wizard causes problems but its still cute to have something like this on my home page to entice people to actually click and visit the XOOPS content pages.

I may delete this at a later date due to browsers blocking active x and the such like and for the newbie browser, this WILL be alarming to them and wont encourage them to discover further.

I really like XOOPS and will continue with this. I have previously tried phpBB2 which was very nice and slick but nowhere near as much content and admin rights as XOOPS has..... However, I gave it up when my site got hacked and of course put me off completely. Hence changing over to xoops.

Fingers crossed.... XOOPS will provide for me exactly my requirements without any hitches for the future.

Many thanks again guys for your constructive criticism....which could so easily have been criticism of the worst kind.

Thanks guys.... I have edited the link in the previous post.

Here it is again

http://www.pookieschatz.com

By the way.... I dont use any adware software at all. Just plain good old Norton. Works a treat for me !!

Could those guys that tested the link, please try again and I just want to ensure that "other" people are seeing a working theme/website as I view the page from work and nothing untowards appears at all.

For those accessing the root of the website, there is a small HTML file which causes Merlin the Wizard from Microsoft Office to appear (just in case your browsing are blocking active X)

Thanks again for your help.... and hope the viewing of the website is satisfactory..... fingers crossed you dont have any errors at all !!!

Thanks for your support in this thread....HOWEVER, I am VERY concerned by DONXOOPS comments:

Quote:
That being said, I think the site in question has some theme problems or worse. Possibly hacked. If the site is compromised then spyware is a possibility. That isn't likely an XOOPS problem

Could you be more specific with "theme problems" ????

It all looks ok to me and it works perfectly and far quicker than some XOOPS sites I have seen so I am unsure what or where I have gone wrong on my site ??

http://www.pookieschatz.com (have edited this link as the URL BB code put a % sign in between the words for some reason !!?

Could you let me know ?

Thanks for your answers....

THANK YOU FOR AN EXCELLENT REPLY.

This is exactly what i suspected but wanted it from the horses mouth.

I will pass this onto the user that was concerned.

I dont run XOOPS on a personal Computer.... it is run on a server.

If you could tell me how to run a local copy of XOOPS then that would be great but somehow i suspect this is difficult.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and with an extensive one at that.

Brill.... well done the XOOPS lads

Guys and Gals.... sorry for the dramatic heading but....

I have a user on my site that has run some spyware software....Here is what she has written to me

Quote:
I'm sorry if this is gonna ruin it for you. I hope not. I think the site may have Spyware. I'm not just guessing this, i've put it to the test. When i log in, i'm getting a lot of activity on the computer even if i'm doing nothing, then i'll run Microsoft AntiSpyWare, Spybot or even McAfee and find threats that weren't there prior. I'm no Genius where computers are concerned, so i REALLY hope i'm wrong. I'd rather tell you then keep my mouth shut, just in case.

Could someone inform me of 2 things:

1. Go visit my site and tell me if you find any threats

2. Tell me that XOOPS isnt bundled with spyware ? (I am sure it isnt)

As you can tell.... I am not a coder or programmer but purely a user and i love playing around with XOOPS and changing a little bit of stuff.... So i have no idea on how to check for spyware stuff and dont really understand it anyway !!!!

Please could someone put my mind at rest or perhaps tell me that i have a virus on the software i installed ??? ( I have anti virus software which is kept up to date on a daily basis)

Please help and thanks for reading....

The "recent topics" does not show in the "Top Pages" I have the "recent topics" showing in the forum block. But as I said, it shows at the top of the page.

I would like to move "recent topics" to below the other blocks which i have on the forum page, ie: Who's online, headlines, whats on (mini calendar), Top links and Members photos (xcgallery)

I have given a "weight" of 4 for "recent topics" so therefore I expect it to move down the page....BUT...it is still remaining at the top of the page !

Dont understand why...could someone point out the reason for this and where I am going wrong please

Many thanks

Ok.... I found the block !

BUT.... no matter what "weight" i give the block, it still remains in the center at the top of the page. I would like this block just above my forum with login block above this.

example

login
top posters
RECENT TOPICS
forum

BUT.... no matter what "weight" i select, it STILL remains in the center at the very top of the page....It wont move down !!!

Any ideas or suggestions regarding this will be greatly received.

Thanks guys and gals

OK.... I just tried what you suggested by using weight to move the block up or down on the site..... I chose the number 7 as i have a few other blocks like calendar, news, headlines etc and wanted to make sure "Recent Topics" was at the bottom of my forum.

IT DIDNT WORK !

Instead.... the option in blocks has now disappeared from the list completely....but the block DOES show on the website BUT NOT in the place at the the bottom as i requested (7) .... it still shows at the very top of the site.

What have I done ?
How do i get "Recent Topics" to show again in my list of Blocks?
Is there any hope for me ?

Thanks for your help guys
