Dear xoopsters:

I want to create a 'Ethnic Indian Music Portal' using xoops.
I will be compiling all kinds of information about the musicians.
Information for each musician will be compiled into a web-page & displayed to users.
Each musician's web-page will have
- my personal opinion of the musician
- the views of syndicated columnists about the musician
- a set of links to other webSites related to the musician

I want users to be able to key in the 'name' of the musician to directly navigate to that musician's web-page.
The users should also be able to browse sub-categories of music (pop/classical etc) and then see a list of musicians and then,
select a musician from that list to go to that musician's web-page.

Is there a xoops-module that I can use? If not, is there a module that I can co-opt, so that I do not have to start from scratch ?

Thanks in advance. Sanjay

Hi.
-- My apologies if this is not the right forum --

I am looking for somebody to help me with a XOOPS based portal. Probably, all the work will add up to about 50 hours over the next 3 months. Most of what I need is somebody who'd be able to program in PHP/HTML to modify the look & feel of the site. Please email me at 'assamese-at-hotmail-dot-com' with your hourly rate (in US dollar)

At every step, I'd explain the requirements & ask for a time estimate; and if we agree on the estimate; I'd ask to start work. I will pay once the work is completed & demoed to me (I will not ask for the code before paying; but, I'd want to see it work from another site)

Needless to say, I expect the person to be very comfortable with all aspects of XOOPS. There is a chance of a longer-term association if everything works out okay. Also, the person will have to sign an NDA.

Any takers ??
Sanjay

Thanks for the help...as you can tell, I am new to PHP, so, I was not aware of 'PEAR:Soap' or 'NuSOAP'; I assume that these packages make it easy to consume webServices..I guess, I should just play with 1 of these to get a better idea.
I have a java-struts soapClient that I am going to convert to a PHP-XOOPS soapClient.

Do you suggest I use PHP 5; which is supposed to have better support for webServices consumption...are there any issues with using XOOPS with PHP5 ?

Thanks. S.

Hi.

I do not want to allow anybody (other than the admin) to be able to post new 'webLinks' and 'News' items. What do I have to do ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I want to integrate my XOOPS frontEnd with a soapServer.
The soapServer functions can be accessed via WSDL.

What is the best way to design this...other than coding in PHP, is there a module that makes it more cut & dry ?

Thanks on advance.

Is there any special configuration steps...I see the 'search' box, I enter a term (> 5 chars long) that has been used in one of the forums, but search comes back with no matches !!

Thanks...I got it working.
So, Now I have the top-5 news stories coming up in the 'center'. I have 1 more related questions:

I wanted 2 modules to show up in the center: 'News' & 'Forum'
Right now, I have only 1; I wanted my site to have a look & feel of the Home page of this 'Community' site: notice , how it has a 'Welcome to Xoops' block followed by a 'Latest XOOPS News' block.
How do I get the same look & feel.

Thanks in advance.

S.
