I asked, and this is what I got back...

PHP was last built on:

We're running Zend Opt 2.5.10a

This is the reply I received from HostGator...

Quote:
Xoops has a new exploit weekly it seems. Also, try to avoid running directories and files with world writable permissions. This makes it really easy for hackers to compromise your website.

He REALLY seems to think I've been hacked. Is this the case? And XOOPS isn't really THAT insecure is it? What should I say to set him straight?

This was in an error log on my server, I emptied the templates_c and cache directories and everything works fine?

White Pages - Only "Notice" Errors - What Gives?

Hey all, I've been searching the forums for 'bout half an hour now with no luck. My site has been running fine for the last month or so with no changes, but this morning nothing appeared except for white pages. Following the directions in the FAQ I enabled PHP debugging and only get Notice errors, here's a sample...

Quote:
Notice [PHP]: Only variable references should be returned by reference in file include/functions.php line 491
Notice [PHP]: Only variable references should be returned by reference in file include/functions.php line 491
Notice [PHP]: Only variables should be assigned by reference in file class/database/mysqldatabase.php line 239
Notice [PHP]: Only variable references should be returned by reference in file class/database/mysqldatabase.php line 386

Searching on the forum tells me this is supposed to be no big deal, so I tried repairing my database tables, deleting the wordpress module via ftp (it wasn't installed) and... I ran out of ideas. I'm waiting to hear back from support at HostGator to see if they upgraded/changed anything on my server last night. They've already suggested that the .htaccess and date.php files in my uploads dir are malicious, but they don't appear to be? Here's the contents of both...

.htaccess

Quote:
Options -MultiViews
ErrorDocument 404 //uploads/date.php

date.php

Quote:
How can I post code?

In the meantime here's what I've got...

Operating system Linux
Kernel version 2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.34 (Unix)
PERL version 5.8.5
PHP version 4.4.1
MySQL version 4.1.14-standard
cPanel Build 10.8.1-RELEASE 30

As for xoops, I've got 2.0.13.something (I upgraded around november and haven't touched it since) with the following modules...

Contact
Donations
MyDownloads
Newbb (<= one of the newer ones)
PiCal
XoopsFaq
XoopsGallery
XoopsMembers
XoopsPoll

I also installed a remember login hack I found somewhere in the forums.

Any ideas out there? Thanks so much.

That did it! After another quick database import it looks like I'm back! So yeah, DEFINITELY should have done that first. (*smacks forehead*) Thanks guys! While I think everyone agrees XOOPS is great on it's own, it's the community that takes it over the top. Where else would I have gotten that many helpful replies? Thanks again!

...and it looks like there are plenty of files that are still missing. Sorry guys, looks like I should have done this first.

Fortunately, SmartFTP's global que is smarter then I am, and is currently comparing the two directories to only upload the files it needs to.

What an obvious answer that totally eluded me! I bow down before your master intellect! Thanks!

*sigh* Okay, I'll do that next. 5 gigs is very difficult for me to upload but I'll give it a try. Unfortunately, they did not give me any error information. The database should in theory be okay, as I reimported that myself and didn't get any errors. Thanks again for your help, I'll post an update after I've re-uploaded.

I still have access to the old site/database, and have local copies of everything as well.

-I don't how to check the language files for the affected modules.

-Kernel version 2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.34 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.1
MySQL version 4.1.13-standard
cPanel Build 10.8.1-RELEASE 21
Theme cPanel X v2.5.0

-Version of XOOPS is 2.0.9.2 (I planned on upgrading after the migration)

I just found a faq entry about how to turn on php debugging using phpmyadmin athttps://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=79 and when I'm looking at my xoops_config table the "Collation" for several of the fields is latin1_swedish_ci. I've always only used english, is this a clue?

UPDATE: The following sql statement doesn't affect any rows:

UPDATE xoops_config SET conf_value=1 WHERE conf_modid=0 AND conf_catid=1 AND conf_name='debug_mode'

UPDATED AGAIN: That's because those values are already 1.
