OK I found the solution and already tested and verified it on my system.

Go into your XOOPS directory and edit the file mainfile.php.

Change the line where it says

http://yoursite.com

into:

http://www.yoursite.com

Tadaaaaa

That's it. As I understand in a vague way a double login occurs. First from the www.name.com address, then when you press a button the request comes from the name.com system which confuses the russian which is sitting in the cpu and is responsible for access security. He sends you back to the gate to get a new pass.

Cheers and let me know if it woiked!

Same problem. I have to login twice. Not only as regular user but also as admin. The first login works, then with the first button pressed the site reloads and present the screen with the access problem.

HELP... plzzzzzzz

With competition like php nuke and others it is not possible to change away from GPL. I just installed XOOPS and if I would have to 'buy' the packet as is I would have deleted it already. The lack of timely support, the instabilty of the system are not indicators for anything else as it is currently. An enthusiastically maintained toolkit. Every module (core) I touched has 'features'... There is a lot to do yourself when you start and run the system. I am still not convinced if it is the system for me as the amount of 'features' which still prevent a public use of my little site are quite overwhelming. A more strickt user license would erase it from disk right away. I would expect a more rounded system which does not require so much intervention. It's like a slider which you can adjust from GPL to tight licensing and the more you move that slider from GPL to tight commercial licensing the more the group pushing that slider has to take on by the means of product support, further development etc. or the system will not find interest. What I wan tto say is that I am happy with what it is right now and feel that I am obliged to report 'features'. If it is a more restricted environment then the erase button is the prefered method as I am not the QA department for some commercial entity. At least not for free. And if nobody pays for a module; sorry donates for a module..... maybe it's not that good or the 'funding drives' have not been started correctly .

My 5 Cents

I should be able to move categories up and down in the admin tool's forum->category section. I can do that but it is eratic. Sometimes times I try to move up from the bottom move up twice and then WARp to the top of the list.

The display of that list in the 'real' forum browser window has not much in common with the 'tool' window.

I am new to PHP and can't help much in the search... yet...

I guess it's a buggggg!

Rainer

PS: There are about 24 Categories in my list.

Thanks for the hint. I will check module and block access rights. I am sure I'll find a module which has not been 'enabled' correctly. I'll post the conclusion here...

Have a great weekend!

THANKS!!!

That solves my problem nicely.

My solution in the meantime was to use an outside proxy. I found one and emailed the company regarding their open proxy and they simply do not care... so for quick tests or when you have no access to the host file use 193.178.233.142 and port 80 for your browser proxy setting. Works like a charm. I only used it for testing because:

1. I don't want to abuse the guy's proxy cache.
2. I don't know what THEY are looking at .

However, using the proxy also shows that all the sttings to get OUT of your lan DO work!

Thanks again for the hosts refresher !!!!

As I understand (have not done it) it is not a problem at all. Just choose another Database prefix and the fields will be kept apart. If you use Linux then just create another account for the new XOOPS site and re-install XOOPS in that account and just use a different prefix for the database.

Rainer

PSuring the installation process XOOPS asks for that prefix.

Help!

Plzzzzz

I have my XOOPS up and running now. I enabled user activation.
Users can register, answer the email and then log in.

THEN they do not have access to all the cool stuff I prepared. I checked the groups and the obvious rights but cannot find the problem. They DO belong to the groups necessary to HAVE access but cant. I am missing something.... sighhhhhhhhh

When I register/enter a user as admin then they can access all stuff they need.

A hint where to look would be great !!!!!

Thanks a million in advance!

Rainer
