Just an update, we finally went with Random Quotes Module 1.0 by: Mario Figge http://www.zona84.com/.

We edited the block template not to show the author, and edited each of the "quotes" (in our case sugestion to internal content in our XOOPS site) with links in Dreamweaver and then pasted them into the module in it's admin.

You can see the it working in www.matamoros.com, it is the center / center block titled "Recomendamos".

Thanks for all sugestions, and special thanks to Mario Figge http://www.zona84.com/ for his great module.

Random Link Module / Block

Does anyone know or can suggest a module that can be used to show a random text with link in a block, it does not have to be a “links” per se.

Explanation:
We would like to be able to show a block on the home page with brief text description and with link to some content page on the same XOOPS site.
To increase visitor clicks to content that would often not be visited because it is scattered and “buried” in different modules and categories throughout the site. The idea is to spotlight some pages and to try to increase visits to them.

It would be great if an image could be included.

If no such module exists, can anyone suggest a module (as a starting point) that could be hacked into doing this.

Thanks and Saludos from Mexico

I dont know what could be wrong.

But, I have compressed it to a ZIP file.

I have uploaded only the hacked mudule to:
http://www.matamoros.com/contenido/xoops/ephemerids_hack.zip

Then:
downloaded it from server
uploaded to a new XOOPS site (2.0.10 Beta)
installed it
modified the cloned template set
Added the proper viwing permissions
added content

And it seems to be working fine!

If you still have trouble please pm your email and I will send it directly to you.

Fastian,

If you are controlling the the link code, take a look at ClickMe 2.0

http://www.mrwebmaster.it/script/php/scheda384.htm

It counts clicks, of course you have to control the link source.

I use it to track clicks to an audio file download.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I had to do a litle bit of testing, and write the reame file.

I have uploaded the modified tinyevents to Ephemerids module hack, you can find it here:http://www.matamoros.com/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=16

Please read the readme file!!!

I have tried to document the modifications on the readme file, but have done a poor job of documenting the actual code files.

I hope that this hack will be of benefit to someone, and somebody might be able to modifie even better.

A couple of notes:
1 I'm almost sure tha globals have to be ON, for the module to work.

2 You have to enable the Next Events Block, and modify it to show the description of the events, this is done via your cloned template set, the code is in the reame files.

You can see it in action at:http://www.matamoros.com/modules/news/

It is the 4th center block titled "Efemerides del Prfr. Andres F. Cuellar".

The main menu link has been disabled (no link to modules index page or submmit link), the events are added from the admin side.

The title of the event is the day in history, eg: September 15, 1945.

The block has been edited in the templateset, to include the title and description of the event, and to exclude the links to the items detail page. The idea being, that visitors only have viewing rights to block that shows the current or next current event at a time.

I will have to read up but I think I can clone and convert it to a new module, it would need some testing.

If you like I can email you the current files.

I have modified Tiny Event Version 1.01 to use as an Ephemerid’s or “Today in History" module.

You can see it working here:http://www.matamoros.com/modules/news/
It is the second block titled “Efemerides del Prfr. Andres F. Cuellar”

Tiny Event is a very nice and simple to use calendar, the author is Tobias Liegl.

What the hack does:
Shows today’s events in history in a block, if today’s (query’s current date, only month and day, not year - so that it can be used any year) is empty it will look up tomorrows events, if tomorrow’s events are empty it will look up the day after tomorrows events, and so on for a week.

I would like to share this hack with anyone interested, I need to document the modifications.
What is the proper procedure for documenting and to making it available for downloads?

It would be great to modify it further to:
Enable BB codes for the text area description
Remove the need for globals for it to work
Add a scrolling block, to be enabled from the admin
Can someone help with this?

Can somebody please help.

I'm using soapbox 1.3 (I tried the soapbox 1.53 but had problems) on XOOPS 2.0.10 Beta 3.

If loged on as admin the colums are listed on the main menu as submenus. But if browsing as anonimous the columns are not listed.

Can someone please point me to the part of the code where this is handled?

In the module preferences the "Columns in menu?" is eanbled.

While on the subject of soapbox:
What is the feasibility of including a spaw or FCK editor?
What is the feasibility of cloning the module?

Saludos and Thanks
Rolando
