I assume that you are doing this as the webmaster?

Make sure that you have permissions assigned in all 3 (approve, view, and submit).

Also, keep in mind that if you create permissions for say categories 1, 2, and 3 and then add a 4th category after that - you will have to go back and give yourself permission on that new category before you can post news about it.

Good luck!

I submitted this as a feature request a while back, and I thought I might be able to make the needed changes myself to the module.

Unfortunately I haven't had the time nor the know-how to get the job done.

Having this feature is important to me, because it can cut down on cosmetic clutter, as well as add functionality!

I like to have main news categories (like say, new in stock) and then have subcategories for areas of product (for example). If people could click on new in stock and then get a "by topic" list of all of the new in stock news, well - that would be impressive.

Re: Fresh install of xoops

I think the "etc" makes my answer severely limiting.

Obviously, if you are dealing with user data, then as long as you backup the db data for the relevant tables, you should be fine.

As long as your fresh installation is the same version, and you are using identical module files, and you backup all of your db data, you should be good to go.

If you need help or any further clarification from a guy who has restored many XOOPS installations, and done what you are exactly asking about - PM me, we'll figure it out.

thankyou for the response.

but what i meant was that it would be nice if it were a user preference that they could set once like the 'time zone' or 'notification options'

some of my users like the default theme that i've chosen for the site but others would rather have another theme as the default but don't really feel like switching it in the block every time they enter the site.

If they have cookies enabled, once they log in, their preference of theme will be remembered.

Darn, sorry to be of little help.

I can tell you that from my install of 1.3.1 and update to 1.3.11 on a fresh XOOPS 2.2, the name issue and posting information issue is not a problem.

I know that doesn't help either...

I assume such changes would have to be made in the news index.php page.

Here is what I am going to look into right now:

Place the subcategories (as well as their images) at the top of the page, sort of in the description.

Then list all of the most recent articles.

Problem is, I think this will be a big enough change that it should probably be done in conjunction with admin panel stuff, which I have ZERO idea about...

:(

You can change it from your real name to user name in the module preferences.

Author's name is about 6 down in News 1.3.11.

I would also like to know if this is possible.

I am using News 1.3.11 and would really enjoy such a feature.

For example, if I have a site with a category called Movie Reviews, and then have them broken up by genre, such as horror/comedy/drama/etc if someone selects Movie Reviews, they can see a list of most recent articles.

(Yeah I thought I would add another hypothetical situation too).

Thanks

I found 1.3.1 and it works nicely so far with 2.2, so I can do some fiddling and hopefully the 1.3.11 update will be available by then!
